Lira University is one of the public Universities in Uganda. It started as a Constituent College of Gulu University in 2009 and attained autonomy as a fully-fledged Public University through an Act Parliament under Statutory Instrument 2015 No. 35 on the 16th July, 2015.
It was established on a niche of training students in Health Sciences. It has the first University Teaching Hospital in Uganda.

Lira University is a Public University pursuant to Statutory Instrument No. 35 of 16 July 2015 under The University's and other Tertiary Institutions Act 2001 (as amended 2006). Applications are invited from suitably qualified and interested candidates for the following post.
Legal Research and Analysis: Conduct research on legal issues, interpret laws, rulings, and regulations, and provide guidance on legal matters.
Drafting and Reviewing Legal Documents: Prepare, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, policies, and other legal documents to ensure they are legally sound and in the organization’s best interest.
Compliance Management: Ensure that the organization complies with all relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies. This may include developing and overseeing compliance programs.
Advisory Services: Provide legal advice to management and other departments on various legal issues, including labor laws, intellectual property, corporate governance, and data protection.
Litigation and Dispute Resolution: Handle or oversee litigation, arbitration, and other dispute resolution processes, either directly or by liaising with external legal counsel.
Risk Management: Identify legal risks and develop strategies to mitigate those risks, including drafting risk management policies and advising on the legal implications of business decisions.
Training and Education: Conduct training sessions for staff on legal topics, such as compliance, intellectual property rights, and contractual obligations.
Monitoring Legal Developments: Keep up to date with changes in legislation, case law, and regulatory requirements that could impact the organization.

Education: A law degree (LL.B. or equivalent) is typically required. Some positions may require an advanced law degree (LL.M.) or specialization in a particular area of law.
Licensing: Must be a licensed attorney, often with membership in a relevant bar association or law society.
Experience: Previous experience in a legal role is usually required. This could range from 2-5 years of experience for entry-level positions to 10+ years for senior roles.
Knowledge of Law: In-depth knowledge of the legal framework relevant to the organization's industry, including contract law, employment law, intellectual property law, and corporate law.
Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret complex legal issues and provide clear, practical advice.
Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for drafting documents, negotiating contracts, and advising stakeholders.
Attention to Detail: A high level of attention to detail to identify and mitigate potential legal risks.
Ethics and Integrity: High ethical standards and integrity in handling sensitive information and making legal decisions.
Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and time-management skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work collaboratively with different departments and build strong working relationships within and outside the organization.
