Job Description
The duties of a Lecturer in Literature primarily revolve around teaching, research, and academic service.
Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching and Curriculum Development
Lecturing: Deliver lectures, seminars, and workshops to undergraduate and possibly postgraduate students in various areas of literature, including literary theory, analysis, and specific genres or periods.
Curriculum Design: Develop, update, and revise course content, syllabi, and reading lists to reflect current scholarship and pedagogical best practices.
Student Assessment: Design and grade assessments, such as essays, exams, presentations, and participation in discussions, ensuring that they effectively evaluate students' understanding of the material.
Course Management: Organize and manage course materials, maintain an online learning environment, and ensure that all course information is accessible to students.
Research and Scholarly Activities
Conduct Research: Engage in research in literature, producing scholarly articles, books, or other academic outputs that contribute to the field.
Publications: Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals, academic presses, or other scholarly outlets.
Conference Participation: Present research at academic conferences, seminars, and workshops to share findings with the broader academic community.
Research Supervision: Supervise undergraduate research projects, theses, and, if applicable, postgraduate dissertations, providing guidance on methodology and critical approaches.
Student Support and Advising
Academic Advising: Provide academic guidance to students, helping them with course selection, literary analysis, and study skills.
Mentoring: Offer mentorship to students interested in pursuing advanced studies in literature or careers related to the field.
Office Hours: Hold regular office hours to discuss coursework, provide feedback, and assist students with any academic concerns.

Qualifications and Competencies
Should have a Master of Arts degree in Literature, but on a PhD track in Literature
Minimum of an upper second Class Honours Degree in English Language or Literature is a MUST.
Experience and Competences
Should have at least three (3) years of teaching experience.
Demonstrated computer literacy and adequate communication skills are a MUST.
Being a registered professional is an added advantage.
