Job Description
The Lead Consultant will be responsible for designing and managing a high-quality conflict analysis study aligned with DANIDA and DRC frameworks. The role includes co-developing research tools, supervising data collection, engaging stakeholders, and co-authoring key deliverables. The consultant will ensure ethical, culturally appropriate, and methodologically sound research practices throughout the study. Travel to Uganda’s West Nile region is required to support fieldwork.
This position requires a professional with strong leadership and analytical capabilities, demonstrated expertise in qualitative research, and a proven track record of producing conflict-sensitive reports for development actors.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Research Design & Methodology
Lead the design of research methodologies in alignment with donor frameworks (DANIDA and DRC).
Co-develop research instruments including interview guides and analytical frameworks.
Ensure integration of qualitative methods such as KIIs, FGDs, conflict mapping, and scenario analysis.
Field Research Oversight & Stakeholder Engagement
Provide technical oversight to field coordinators, data collectors, and interpreters.
Ensure ethical and culturally appropriate data collection.
Engage with diverse stakeholders including government, NGOs, refugee leaders, and international agencies.
Resolve fieldwork challenges and maintain data validity and reliability.
Data Analysis & Reporting
Collaborate with the Senior Researcher / Co-Lead on qualitative data synthesis.
Conduct robust coding, triangulation, and analysis.
Co-author the Draft and Final Conflict Analysis Reports.
Workshop Design & Facilitation
Design and lead a conflict analysis validation workshop.
Present findings to stakeholders and refine recommendations in collaboration with DRC and DANIDA.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Master’s or PhD in Conflict Studies, International Relations, Political Science, Development Studies, or related field
Minimum 5+ years of experience leading conflict analysis research
Strong expertise in qualitative methods (KIIs, FGDs, conflict/power mapping, scenario planning)
Familiarity with DANIDA and DRC methodologies
Proven leadership in managing research teams and field operations
Experience in Uganda’s refugee-host settings, especially West Nile
Excellent analytical writing and reporting skills
Experience in facilitating stakeholder workshops and validation sessions
Ability to work independently and coordinate with remote teams
