Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Laboratory Technologist to join our team for the GSK project. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing molecular and malaria parasite culturing, as well as various laboratory experiments. The role involves working closely with study participants and adhering to strict protocols for malaria diagnosis and research.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Participant Screening & Recruitment: Identify and screen potential study participants, ensuring informed consent is obtained in accordance with ethical guidelines.
Malaria Parasite Culturing: Conduct malaria parasite culturing and assay experiments, following the highest laboratory standards.
Molecular & Genetic Testing: Perform molecular and genetic experiments related to malaria research.
Microscopy & Data Recording: Carry out malaria microscopy and record results, adhering to WHO guidelines and best laboratory practices.
Study Protocol Adherence: Recruit patients into the study while following Good Clinical and Laboratory Practices (GCLP) as outlined in study protocols.
Sample Collection & Preparation: Collect and prepare field samples for transportation to research laboratories, following established guidelines.
Laboratory Recordkeeping: Maintain accurate records of laboratory activities, including inventory management for equipment and supplies.
Quality Assurance: Ensure the implementation of laboratory quality assurance procedures to uphold the integrity of all laboratory processes.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Laboratory Technology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
Experience: At least one year of experience in a malaria genomics setting, with proficiency in molecular techniques and malaria parasite culturing.
Licensing: Valid Annual Practicing License.
Research Experience: Previous experience in carrying out research in a laboratory setting.
Skills:
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Good communication skills and scientific report writing ability.
Proficient in computer use and laboratory software.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team.
Certifications: Valid Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Human Subject Protection (HSP) certificates are required.
