About the Organisation

Yako Bank (U) Limited was incorporated in the Republic of Uganda in 2010 and licensed as a Credit Institution by Bank of Uganda in 2020.

In September 2015, Yako got its license to operate as a deposit-taking institution and started operations under the name Yako Microfinance (U) Limited. It upgraded to a Credit Institution in 2020 and was licensed to operate as Yako Bank (U) Limited. Yako Bank is owned by different shareholders and has been licensed by the Bank of Uganda to provide savings and lending products to different clients.

Yako Bank (U) Limited is located in Kampala with its head office at Forest Mall Lugogo with branches at Raja Chambers on Parliament Avenue and in Jinja on Main Street.

Job Description

Job Title:   IT Support Officer

Organisation: Yako Bank (U) Limited

Duty Station:  Kampala, Uganda


Yako Bank is seeking a skilled and proactive IT Support Officer to provide technical support, ensure smooth IT operations, and assist in maintaining a secure and efficient IT infrastructure. This role is vital to ensuring that the bank’s IT systems and processes run seamlessly, supporting both internal and customer-facing services.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

As an IT Support Officer, your key responsibilities may include:

Technical Support and Troubleshooting

  • Provide first-line technical support to bank staff and resolve hardware, software, and network issues.

  • Install and configure IT equipment, including computers, printers, and network devices.

  • Assist with system upgrades and maintenance to ensure optimal performance.


Network and Security Support

  • Monitor and maintain network systems to ensure connectivity and reliability.

  • Implement and adhere to security protocols to protect the bank’s data and IT systems.

  • Identify and resolve potential security vulnerabilities in a timely manner.


IT Operations Management

  • Perform regular system health checks and backups.

  • Ensure the availability of IT resources to support daily business operations.

  • Maintain accurate records of IT inventory and incident reports.


Support for Banking Applications

  • Assist with the configuration and troubleshooting of banking software and pplications.

  • Collaborate with external vendors to resolve software-related issues.


Compliance and Training

  • Ensure adherence to the bank’s IT policies and regulatory requirements set by the Bank of Uganda.

  • Train and support staff in using IT systems effectively.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.


Experience

  • At least 2 years of experience in IT support, preferably within the banking or financial services industry.


Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues.

  • Familiarity with banking applications and systems.

  • Strong knowledge of data security protocols and IT best practices.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and IT ticketing systems.


Soft Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with diverse teams.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.

  • Proactive and self-motivated with a willingness to learn and adapt.
