Job Description
The Headteacher is the lead administrator and academic head of a Government Secondary School. They will be responsible for planning, supervising, and managing school operations in alignment with national education goals and standards. This includes oversight of teaching programs, staff development, financial accountability, school development planning, student welfare, and coordination with education stakeholders. The Headteacher also ensures implementation of educational sector reforms and leads performance evaluations of staff.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Teach and assess students based on the timetable
Overall management and administration of the school
Plan school physical development and staff professional growth
Organize and coordinate teaching activities for staff and students
Ensure planning, budgeting, and accountability in collaboration with the Board of Governors
Coordinate Board of Governors’ functions and report to them and MoES
Initiate and mobilize resources for school development projects
Supervise, appraise and assess school staff performance
Manage student admissions, supplies, and welfare
Implement secondary education sector reforms
Prepare and present progress reports to the Board and Ministry
Establish and maintain collaboration with other education institutions
Chair school meetings and perform any other duties as assigned

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education Requirements:
Master’s Degree in Education / Education Management / Education Planning and Management OR a Master’s Degree in a teaching subject
Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Education OR Honours Degree in a teaching subject + Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE)
Must be a registered graduate teacher with the Ministry of Education and Sports
Experience:
Minimum of 12 years of teaching experience
At least 3 years of experience as a Deputy Headteacher in a Government-Aided or Government-Owned Secondary School

Interpersonal, counseling, and communication skills
Financial and human resource management
Curriculum development and evaluation
ICT proficiency and public relations
