The Aga Khan Education Service in Uganda was established in the early 1930s in 20 villages and towns, including Masaka, Mbale, Jinja and Mbarara.
Currently, AKES in Uganda runs co-educational day schools located in central Kampala and attended by over 30 nationalities at Nursery, Primary and Secondary levels.

Over the years the institutions of AKES in Uganda have come to be recognised as spaces for inquiry, development, learning and quality education from the nursery to secondary level. A total student population of over 2000 children are taught by 150 full-time teaching staff, who are supported by part-time and volunteer educators.

The Aga Khan Education Services (AKES) is an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network and one of the largest private, not-for-profit, non-denominational educational networks in the developing world. AKES, Uganda operates Primary and High Schools in Kampala and offers the Cambridge Curriculum International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE), International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) and the Uganda National Primary and Secondary Curriculum.

AKES, Uganda is currently seeking to recruit a Head of Operations to for AKES, Uganda, which operates three schools in Uganda. The Head of Operations will oversee and guide the work of the Facilities, IT, Procurement and Human Resources departments at AKES,U and will ensure the efficient day-to-day operations, policy and procedure development, and strategic directions for these departments.

  • Strategic Planning: Developing and implementing operational strategies aligned with the organization's overall goals and objectives.

  • Process Improvement: Identifying inefficiencies in operational processes and implementing improvements to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance productivity.

  • Resource Management: Overseeing the allocation and utilization of resources, including personnel, equipment, and facilities, to ensure optimal performance and cost-effectiveness.

  • Quality Assurance: Establishing and maintaining quality standards for products, services, and operational processes to ensure consistency and customer satisfaction.

  • Risk Management: Identifying potential risks and developing strategies to mitigate them, including issues related to safety, compliance, and security.

  • Supply Chain Management: Managing the procurement, inventory, and distribution of materials and resources to support operational activities and meet customer demand.

  • Financial Management: Monitoring operational budgets and expenses, identifying opportunities for cost savings, and ensuring that operations are conducted within budgetary constraints.

  • Performance Monitoring: Establishing key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure operational performance and regularly monitoring and analyzing performance data to identify areas for improvement.

  • Team Leadership: Providing leadership and direction to operational teams, including setting goals, providing guidance, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

  • Communication and Collaboration: Facilitating communication and collaboration between operational teams and other departments within the organization to ensure alignment and effective coordination of activities.

  • Compliance and Regulations: Ensuring compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards governing the organization's operations, as well as implementing policies and procedures to uphold ethical and legal standards.

  • Change Management: Managing organizational change initiatives, including process reengineering, technology implementations, and structural changes, to support business growth and adaptation to market dynamics.

  • Customer Focus: Maintaining a customer-centric approach to operations, prioritizing customer needs and feedback in decision-making and striving to deliver high-quality products and services that meet or exceed customer expectations.

  • Continuous Improvement: Promoting a culture of continuous improvement within the operations function, encouraging innovation, learning, and experimentation to drive operational excellence.

  • Must have an MBA.

  • Should have a minimum of 5+ years’ of relevant experience.

  • A background and qualifications in Finance and Accounting will be an added advantage.

  • Should have an experience in an educational setting in international schools,

  • Must have a strong inter-personal and communication skills, as well as cultural awareness and sensitivity.

  • Should have an experience in managing and guiding new facilities projects as well as managing routines facilities works,

  • Should have a good knowledge of IT network infrastructure and current trends in educational technology,

  • Should have an experience and knowledge of Human Resource management and policies,

  • Should have a ability to guide procurement for cost-efficiencies and timely turn-around.
