Job Title: Head of Energy Solutions

Job Summary:
The position is responsible for providing strategic leadership in the Energy Solution Division by identifying sales opportunities, developing markets, developing strategic partnerships, leading bid preparation to negotiations, and monitoring the implementation of energy solutions projects at customer sites.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Result1: A clear business development strategy & plan is developed and implemented so that objectives are achieved.
Set and manage the annual business development strategy and plan for the division.
Develop an effective sales strategy, to drive efficient customer acquisition and revenue growth, including owning the strategic direction for key inputs (e.g markets, distribution channels and strategic partnerships).
Collaborate cross functionally to determine other key strategic inputs (e.g solutions, pricing, marketing plans, operations).
Ensure the division’s strategies are in line with the company strategy and have robust plans to deliver the company targets, including allocating sufficient investment and resources reliably.
Provide general advisory and strategic support to the CEO and undertake growth strategies and strategic projects.
Provide thought leadership in the development of appropriately aligned strategic partnerships.
Collaborate with other cross-functional leads, advocate for outcomes, provide input into strategies and plans, and act as a key stakeholder on cross functional decisions.
Result 2: Business opportunities are identified, developed and pursued, sales targets are set and achieved
Implement market intelligence strategies to identify prospective energy solutions clients
Conduct targeted assessment of prospective clients in order to assess market needs and position solutions and products and seek opportunities to demonstrate and propose solutions to targeted prospects
In consultation with other colleagues, identify potential solutions to market needs.
Oversee the division’s business opportunities portfolio and periodically review sales performance.
Lead the preparation of bids and proposals to ensure they align with business development strategies and plans, including pricing strategies.
In consultation with the CEO, review and approve bid or proposal prices.
Assist the CEO in the negotiating contracts with potential clients.
Result 3: Markets are developed and expanded
Lead efforts to expand into new geographical markets
Attend and promote the Company profile at all approves Energy events
Continuously manage ongoing list of opportunities for geographical expansion.
Monitor and evaluate opportunities for new market entry, largely through a mix of strategic partnerships and organic entries.
If strong opportunities arise, undertake a full assessment including market evaluation, entry strategy and business case, and if approved, lead efforts to expand into the market.
Result 4: Solutions implemented meet user needs and that user interests are fairly and accurately represented on the Project Board.
Ensure clients commit adequate resources to monitor and verify that user requirements are consistently met.
Conduct user satisfactory surveys to understand that the solutions delivered are meeting and surpassing client expectations
Responsible for ensuring clients specify adequately the needs of those who will use the proposed solutions.
Ensure that quantifiable benefits of the solutions are specified and that there are adequate resources and comprehensive measures to monitor the realization of such benefits and resultant impact.
In consultation with the client, develop a criteria for acceptance of the solutions;
In consultation with the client, resolve user requirements priority conflicts.
Provide project assurance by advising the project manager on stakeholder engagement; on communication management approaches; ensuring quality control measures are correctly applied to ensure solutions meet user expectations; advising on project changes from the user point of view.
Design effective quality control measures to the delivery of all solutions for effectiveness.
Result 5: Projects are adequately planned and effectively and efficiently implemented.
In consultation with the CEO, receive, review and approve project plans and budgets
In consultation with the Manager Corporate Services, ensure approved resources are allocated to projects;
Receive and review periodic project progress reports, project budget performance reports and provide appropriate guidance to the Project Manager
Manage stakeholder interests on projects assigned;
Provide first point of contact for client and other stakeholder communication
Review and endorse project accountability reports submitted by Project Managers.
Ensure all projects are planned, executed and completed in accordance with the Project Management Manual and all clients sign off on the project completion certificate(PCC)
Result 6: New solutions for market segments are innovated and partners are satisfactorily managed
Review and recommend to management new innovations and solutions for the market
Review partnership agreements and manage partners for energy and power management solutions.
Result 7: A high performance team is nurtured and developed
Identify gaps in competences or skills set of subordinate staff through accurate, objective and regular staff appraisals.
Provide strong leadership, mentoring and coaching of subordinate staff
Provide adequate training and knowledge transfer to all division staff to ensure business continuity.
Advise and follow up on staff development requirements for the team
Manage the team’s work plan and workload to ensure the achievement of agreed goals
Result 8: Company customers are satisfied
Verify and ensure deliverables/ outputs are accepted by clients before project closure.
Conduct post project delivery satisfaction surveys to establish the level of use of the applications, either as part of the SLA period or independently to ensure uptake and user of the applications delivered
Oversee the evaluation of the execution of projects and ensure documentation lessons learnt and improvement actions;
Verify if specified benefits of the solutions implemented are being realized by clients and provide appropriate advice
Other duties
Perform other related duties as required
NB: Performance Targets for these result areas shall be set by the CEO in the consultation with the Board and communicated to the position holder on an annual basis

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
University degree in Electrical Engineering or other related fields.(Required)
Post-graduate degree in Electrical Engineering or Energy Management or Project Management or Business Administration or other related fields.(Required)
Professional certification in project management such as PRINCE2 or PMP.(Desired)
Details of experience
At least 10 years of experience in sales, design, implementation or maintenance of electrical/power/energy solutions.(Required)
At least 5 years of experience leading business development or commercial teams for electrical/power/ energy solutions.(Required)
Must have led the preparation and submission of at least 5 successful bids exceeding USD200,000 for electrical/power/energy solutions that resulted into contracts with government or development partners or multinational companies or agencies.(Required)
Must have a proven track record and experience in designing and supervising solar and hydro energy projects.(Required)
Knowledge, skills and competences
Excellent proficiency in written, spoken and read English is required.
Good proficiency in spoken and read Swahili is an added advantage.
Strong visioning, strategy, problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to set and communicate the strategic vision for sales throughout the organization.
Exceptional judgement and decision-making skills, with the ability to independently assess and take action to achieve results.
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to develop meaningful relationships with key business executives but also with external strategic commercial partners.
Strong leadership, planning and program/ project management capability, with the ability to lead high impact cross functional strategic projects.
Experience building, inspiring, leading teams with a wide variety of levels, experience and capabilities.
Ability to leverage data analysis to identify insights to build strategic plans and execute against them.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with integrity, tact, professionalism and diplomacy.
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and time management skills.
Proficient in usage of computers, MS Office applications, business and communication tools
