Equity Bank Uganda Limited, is a commercial bank in Uganda. It is licensed by the Bank of Uganda, the central bank and national banking regulator.

Equity Bank is one of the fastest growing banks in Uganda, with a large network of 50 branches, 7,000+ EquiDuukas, 1,279 POS Terminal and 50+ ATMs spread across the country. 25 of these branches are located in Central and greater Kampala, serving over 1,800,000 customers. The Bank has deployed a number of Alternate Business Channels to enhance its product and service delivery. These include: Internet Banking, Eazzy 247- a mobile banking service, Point of Sales (POS) machines as well as partnerships with major telecom companies.

The Bank has adopted the Group approach of financial inclusion by opening its doors to customers across the financial pyramid. On the back of the Group technological advances, Equity Uganda is now recognized as a key enabler to driving inclusion and innovation through strategic partnerships with telecoms, utility companies, local government, religious bodies, and third- tier financial institutions.

The partnership with the entities above has enabled Equity Bank Uganda to grow through technology adoption, faster access to finance and improved play in the growing cross-border opportunities following the recent revitalization of the East Africa Community (EAC). Equity Bank

The Head of Credit will be responsible for the overall credit function of the Bank. Establishes internal controls and processes for credit assessments, restructuring, monitoring and recovery in line with Bank overall Strategy and Objectives. Drives initiatives that aim to satisfy both internal and external customers.

Strategic Planning and Management

  • Develop Credit Policies and Procedures: Formulate and implement comprehensive credit policies, guidelines, and procedures that align with the organization's risk appetite and regulatory requirements.

  • Strategic Planning: Participate in strategic planning sessions to align the credit strategy with the overall business objectives of the organization.

  • Risk Management: Establish and manage credit risk management frameworks, ensuring the identification, assessment, and mitigation of credit risks.


Operational Oversight

  • Credit Approval: Oversee and, in some cases, approve large or complex credit applications, ensuring they meet the institution's credit standards.

  • Credit Portfolio Management: Monitor and manage the overall credit portfolio to maintain a balanced risk profile and achieve target returns.

  • Loan Review and Monitoring: Regularly review and monitor the performance of the loan portfolio, including early identification of potential problem loans.


Leadership and Team Management

  • Team Leadership: Lead and manage the credit department, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities to team members.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, such as sales, operations, and finance, to ensure a cohesive approach to credit management.


Compliance and Reporting

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all credit activities comply with relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies.

  • Reporting: Prepare and present detailed reports on the credit portfolio’s performance, risk exposures, and compliance status to senior management and the board of directors.


Stakeholder Management

  • Customer Relationship Management: Maintain and build strong relationships with key clients, understanding their needs and providing tailored credit solutions.

  • External Relations: Liaise with regulators, auditors, and other external stakeholders to ensure the credit function meets all required standards.


Innovation and Improvement

  • Process Improvement: Continuously seek opportunities to improve credit processes and systems, enhancing efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Technology Integration: Leverage technology and data analytics to improve credit assessment, monitoring, and reporting processes.

  • A Bachelor's degree in any discipline from an accredited institution.

  • A master's degree in business, finance or management is an added advantage.

  • At least eight [15] years' experience in a financial institution within the credit/related function. Of these at least five (5) of which must be at senior managerial level. Exposure to both Corporate & Retail lending will be added advantage.

  • Sound knowledge of statutory and regulatory requirements of corporate governance, busin business and banking operations

  • Ability to formulate and execute strategy in lending terms

  • Communication skills and empathic listening

  • Exposure to Risk Management

  • Ability to build and sustain Customer relationships.

  • Approachable with interpersonal skills
