Job Description
Job Title: Head of Broadcast Engineering
Organisation: Next Media

Reports to: Chief Operations Officer
The Head of Broadcast Engineering is responsible for overseeing the technical operations of Next Media’s broadcast facilities, ensuring high-quality video and audio output, and staying up-to-date with the latest broadcast technologies. This includes managing a team of broadcast engineers, designing and implementing broadcast systems, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Lead the design, installation, and maintenance of broadcast systems, including video/audio equipment, transmission systems, and IP-based broadcast infrastructure.
Ensure the highest quality of broadcast output by overseeing signal processing, routing, and distribution systems.
Stay updated with emerging broadcast technologies (e.g., 4K/8K, HDR, IP workflows) and recommend upgrades or new systems to enhance performance.
Manage broadcast-related projects, including budgeting, timelines, and vendor relationships.
Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to broadcast equipment and systems.
Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations (e.g., SMPTE, ATSC, EBU).
Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of electrical systems, including power distribution, UPS systems, and backup generators.
Ensure electrical systems meet safety standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., NEC, IEEE).
Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance of electrical infrastructure to minimize downtime.
Collaborate with facilities management to ensure reliable power supply for broadcast operations.
Develop and implement energy-efficient solutions to reduce operational costs.
Lead and mentor a team of broadcast and electrical engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
Manage departmental budgets, resource allocation, and procurement of equipment and services.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, production, and facilities, to ensure seamless operations.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Masters Degree is an added Advantage
6+ years of experience in broadcast engineering, including experience with broadcast systems design, implementation, and maintenance with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
Strong knowledge of broadcast systems (e.g., routers, switchers, encoders, decoders) and electrical systems (e.g., power distribution, grounding, and surge protection).
Experience with IP-based broadcast workflows and cloud-based broadcast solutions and a proven track record of managing large-scale broadcast and electrical projects
Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues under pressure
Skills: Strong technical skills, including experience with broadcast systems, Excellent leadership and management skills, communication, and interpersonal skills.
