Job Description

The Head of Distribution is typically a senior executive role responsible for overseeing the distribution strategy and operations of a company. This role involves ensuring that products or services are effectively distributed to retailers, wholesalers, or directly to consumers.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Strategic Planning: Developing and implementing distribution strategies to ensure products reach the market efficiently.

  • Logistics Management: Overseeing the logistics of product distribution, including warehousing, transportation, and inventory management.

  • Channel Management: Managing relationships with distribution partners, such as wholesalers, retailers, or direct-to-consumer channels.

  • Performance Monitoring: Tracking the performance of distribution channels and optimizing for cost-effectiveness and speed.

  • Compliance: Ensuring that distribution practices comply with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.

  • Network Expansion: Building and expanding the network by onboarding new merchants who can sell the company’s products or services.

  • Relationship Management: Maintaining strong relationships with existing merchants, ensuring they have the support needed to succeed.

  • Technology Integration: Implementing and managing the technological infrastructure that enables merchants to connect with the company’s platform (e.g., payment systems, e-commerce platforms).

  • Incentive Programs: Creating and managing incentive programs to encourage merchants to increase sales or remain within the network.

  • Performance Analytics: Analyzing merchant performance data to optimize sales strategies and improve network efficiency.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Finance, or related field: A strong academic background helps in understanding business and financial principles.

  • Advanced degree (MBA or equivalent): Often preferred, especially for large organizations or roles involving significant strategic oversight.


Experience

  • Extensive experience in distribution and network management: Typically 10+ years of experience, including senior management roles.

  • Proven track record in building and managing large-scale distribution networks: Experience in expanding merchant networks, preferably in a similar industry.

  • Experience with multi-channel distribution strategies: Including physical and digital channels.

  • Background in sales management and business development: Experience in driving sales through merchant networks and distribution channels.

  • Operational management experience: Leading teams, setting targets, managing budgets, and optimizing processes.
