Job Description

Mission / Core purpose of the Job:
•To focus attention and efforts on the future of sales, continuously explore opportunities to expand the Commercial Operations function through innovative channel strategies and offerings.
•To explore the acquisitions of new ventures or partnerships with innovative companies in order to gain competitive advantage and sustain growth.

Duties and Responsibilities

Channel Expansion Strategy Enablement

•Implements the Channel Expansion strategy by integrating inputs across the BU and business. Lead the implementation of yearly plans in collaboration with Commercial GMs and in line with the overarching business goals and Strategy.

•Research innovative approaches to sales (above and beyond telcos) and find external parties able to deliver on these approaches

•Receive guidance from business leaders on MTN’s short, medium and long-term strategies and explore solutions (and subsequently partnerships) aligned to these


Channel Expansion Execution and Leadership

•Lead an innovative team to build the innovation pipeline for Commercial Operations in order to grow revenue and ensure sustainability through Channel Innovation. Play a critical delivery role when required.

•In collaboration with team and Commercial leadership, workshop emerging channel concepts and action these for exploration

•Identify new means of increasing either the customer base or the revenue from new customers through the acquisition of new ventures or strategic partnerships

•Present business cases and financial models for viable ventures and submit investment cases for approval to Exec as well as other relevant business leaders

•Solicit and receive inputs from CX Strategic Partnerships team on partners to consider pursuing

•Collaborate with Technology to unpack the feasibility of concepts for emerging channels

•Advise on business cases for new partnerships/acquisitions prioritised to be pursued

•Provide oversight and input into financial models to establish viability of their projects/undertakings

•Provide oversight and input into deals being structured for partnerships

•Oversee and execute on the implementation, measurement, and evolution of Channel Expansion solutions for the business across area of responsibility. Establish feedback loops to measure ROI on successful solutions and report back on progress to leader and/or business leadership

•Partner with vendors to provide design support for key services. Collaborate on the design of solutions and provide key inputs for execution

•Continuously manage and review the performance and deliverables of direct and indirect reports to ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved. Ensure service delivery excellence at all times within area of responsibility

 

Budget, Cost Control & Reporting

•Develop periodic budgets and plans for Channel Expansion and collaborate closely with finance business partners  and executives, in the process

•Collaborate closely with finance team in budgeting exercises

•Forecast, plan, develop and review the budget  and secure the necessary approvals

•Review and submit reports for the Exec addressing periodic activity, budget compliance, feedback and key departmental results to facilitate decision making

•Manage and optimize the budget, ensuring all expenditure is in line with the agreed budgets

•Monitor costs and determine initiatives to increase efficiencies and optimize resources - maximize cost/benefit ratios     

•Ensure that all MTN company financial targets are met

•Ensure Vendor & IT costs are effectively managed


Continuous Improvement

•Act as a thought leader for the future of sales channels

•Leverage on opportunities and structures made available by the platform business to innovate

•Research and keep abreast of new innovations, identify and share leading practices, concepts and benchmarks on a continual basis with own team

•Participate in communities of practices and conferences to facilitate knowledge sharing and positioning of MTN’s intellectual property and employer of choice brand towards the external marketplace

•Monitor true-value metrics to measure the impact and benefit of the function to MTN SA


Governance, Policies and Procedures

•Champion establishment of policies, processes and procedures pertaining to Channel Expansion and their communication/ education to all affected staff including those in other relevant business units

•Provide oversight to the innovation pipeline (governance, process, facilitation, strategy)

•Ensure effective implementation of (and compliance towards) company policies, processes, and procedures. Put effective methods and standards in place in alignment with aforementioned

•Manage and provide solutions to escalations that have multiple processes / functions impact on critical path of service delivery

•Continuously review key risks, issues and dependencies and set mitigation actions


People & Culture Management

•Set integrated goals and objectives for the Channel Expansion team within MTN in order to achieve a future-focused, future-fit high-performing organization

•Provide technical, procedural and policy guidance to staff, colleagues , partners and vendors

•Attract, develop and retain appropriate talent. Build talent by identifying and developing new leaders for the respective environment

•Create and implement personal development plans

•Define the KPAs and KPIs that will be cascaded down to each area

•Manage Performance and identify training needs. Coach and guide subordinates

•Enable and model healthy employee relations and collaborative teamwork

•Manage diversity, develop, and embed an Employment Equity plan for the business area

•Contribute to building a culture  of continuous evaluation and improvement. Drive a culture of high performance, accountability and consequence management

•Act as an ambassador for the team by living the Brand values and vital behaviors and changing and influencing employees’  behavior

Qualifications and Competencies

Education 

•Bachelors degree in Commerce, Engineering or Marketing

•An MBA or a Masters qualification

•advantageous

 

Experience  

Minimum 8 years’ experience including:

•Minimum 3 years of Senior Management Experience

•Work across diverse cultures and geographies

•Strong track record in Sales

•Proven new business development expertise

•In depth knowledge of  Telco sector

•Sound product knowledge

•Established network of industry and professional contacts for reference purposes

•Background/ experience in Market research/ channel innovation/ Future of Work

 

Skills 

•Fluent in English

•Excellent Presentation Skills
