PEAS is one of the largest secondary school networks in Sub-Saharan Africa. Each year, over 19,000 students learn at our 36 schools in rural communities across Uganda and Zambia. Drawing on our practical experience, we work hand in hand with governments to improve the wider education system.
PEAS is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding access to high-quality, affordable secondary education across Africa. Since 2008, we've been partnering with governments to build and run low-cost secondary schools in underserved communities. With 30 schools in Uganda and 6 in Zambia, we currently serve over 19,000 students. Our model has been shown to improve academic performance, especially for students from disadvantaged backgrounds, while keeping costs low.

Job Description
Job Title: Grants and Business Development Coordinator
Department: Business Development
Location: Kampala (with occasional travel, up to 5%)
Reports to: Country Director
Compensation: Specialist Grade
Budget Holder Responsibility: Business Development Budget
Line Management Responsibility: None
Role Overview:
The Grants and Business Development Coordinator is pivotal in driving PEAS’ grant management and business development efforts. This role focuses primarily (90%) on managing grants and ensuring compliance, reporting, and coordination, with a secondary focus (10%) on supporting new business development.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
Grant Reporting & Management (90%):
Lead the creation, review, and quality assurance of donor reports (narrative and financial), ensuring they meet internal deadlines and donor guidelines.
Coordinate with internal teams, assign tasks, and ensure the quality of content across reports, maintaining alignment with donor priorities.
Prepare high-quality updates for donor meetings and ensure clear communication regarding grant reporting responsibilities across the organization.
Work with the Global Grants Manager to maintain and update grant management systems, ensuring compliance with donor rules and regulations.
Provide ongoing support and training to country staff, helping them understand their responsibilities related to grant commitments.
Track and analyze project expenditures with the Finance team, ensuring proper use of funds and addressing any financial discrepancies.
Represent PEAS in donor meetings and visits, facilitating interactions and ensuring smooth logistics.
Business Development Support (10%):
Collaborate with the Operations, M&E, and Programs teams to design and package impact data for funders.
Assist in the development of high-quality proposals and concept papers for institutional and corporate donors.
Support the Country Director with outreach, relationship building, and progressing funding opportunities.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Essential:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Finance, Business Development, Social Sciences, or a related field.
At least 5 years of experience in grant management and fundraising, particularly with international donors such as EU, DFID/FCDO, USAID.
Strong financial literacy and understanding of financial controls and procedures.
Experience in project management and understanding of international development trends.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English.
Ability to build relationships both internally and externally with senior colleagues, donors, and partners.
Desirable:
Knowledge of corporate funding agencies in Uganda and the region.
Familiarity with current development trends and philosophies.
Experience raising and managing bi-lateral and multi-lateral funding for reputable NGOs.
