Job Description
Job Title: Finance Manager
Organisation: World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF)

Reports to: Chief Operating Officer
The Finance Manager provides the required leadership to financial planning and reporting and advises the leadership with key financial information and operational analytics. They are responsible for the full spectrum of financial and accounting operations such as accounting, financial reporting, budget management, and internal controls. The Finance Manager is also responsible for driving a culture of accountability in managing finance related matters. As a member of the Country Leadership Team (CLT), they lead the development and implementation of accounting/finance policies, processes and systems to safeguard and control WWF’s financial assets and provide complete, accurate and timely financial information and records. The Finance Manager is also responsible for reviewing funding contracts and monitoring the deliverables and funding requirements per contracts.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
In this regard, the Finance Manager will:
Lead the costing of the country’s strategic plan and the establishment of a financial sustainability plan.
Support the proposal development process and ensure that programme and project budgets are prepared in accordance with WWF budgeting standards and donor requirements, training staff when necessary.
Prepare WWF-Uganda’s consolidated annual budget, programme and project budgets and other forward looking financial plans in accordance with donor requirements.
Be accountable for the regular and robust budget monitoring and forecasting process at the UCO.
Take responsibility for prudent long-term business and financial contingency planning including appropriate budget allocations, investments and reserves.
Be accountable for the overall liquidity position of the country office and advise on key decisions.
Oversee the management of UCO’s finances including cash flow, working capital, investment decisions, and foreign exchange risk management.
Lead the team responsible for developing and delivering a suite of management reports and financial analyses in a timely manner, supporting data-driven and informed decision-making at all levels.
Be accountable for providing accurate and regular insights and trends by utilising data and reports to enable evidence-based financial decisions.
Periodically evaluate and review financial performance of the country office and its projects, PO dashboard and KPIs with the Grants and CSO Partnership Manager and other relevant stakeholders.
Regularly review the financial status of income and expenditure of all projects against agreed budget, paying special attention to deficit situations and other financial issues.
Ensure the smooth flow of information across the UCO and ROA alongside other key stakeholders utilizing live dashboards and data presentation tools.
Lead the adaptation of WWF International Finance and Operations policies and procedures by the country office to the local context where appropriate.
Ensure robust risk strategies are in place to mitigate any internal and external financial risks.
Streamline financial processes and procedures, and implement timely new financial initiatives, requirements to support smooth conservation delivery.
Responsible for the development and management of policies, guidance documents, and information relating to financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, analysis and reporting that are applicable to the UCO and in line with the WWF Network standards.
Coordinate the country office and project specific external audits and organize provision of required information and support.
Prepare management responses to audit recommendations and ensure their implementation, with timely reporting to WWF International and relevant donors.
Ensure organizational compliance to statutory requirements, network policies, donors’ policies and internal financial policies and procedures.
Provide leadership to the Finance team; right staff are recruited, job descriptions are up to date,team performance is managed in line with WWF policies and ensure the capacity of the team is built to meet the needs of the department.
Foster the necessary consultation, communication, and good relations with the wider finance community in the network.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
The ideal candidate should hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Management, with at least ten 10 years of relevant experience, including not less than 5 years of experience in a leadership role with proven success in an international organization.
A full accounting qualification (CPA, ACCA, or equivalent) is required, and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA), Finance, or Accounting is an added advantage.
The candidate should clearly demonstrate skills in developing, managing, and evaluating financial and administrative plans and policies, with experience working with both government and donors.
A thorough knowledge of accounting software is essential, proficiency in MS Office applications (particularly at an advanced level in MS Excel) is required, and experience with ERP systems is highly desirable.
Experience working with international organizations involved in environmental and/or community issues is beneficial.
The candidate should possess excellent communication skills in written and spoken English.
Strong management and leadership skills combined with diplomacy, numeracy, and business acumen are essential for this role. They should demonstrate the ability to collaborate, motivate, and promote an effective and efficient team.
The candidate should be capable of recommending strategies and providing solutions that benefit both the department and the organization. They should possess strong prioritization skills, the ability to work within tight timelines, and be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
The candidate must also be able to work independently with minimal supervision and exhibit a high level of resilience. They should be a good team player with strong interpersonal skills demonstrated by the ability to work effectively in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity, while maintaining strong relationships with external stakeholders.
