The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees was established on December 14, 1950 by the United Nations General Assembly. UNHCR’s mandate under the Statute of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees is to lead and co-ordinate action for international protection to refugees; seek permanent solutions for the problems of refugees and safeguard refugee rights and well-being. UNHCR has an additional mandate concerning issues of statelessness, as it is given a designated role under Article 11 of the 1961 Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness.

Job Description
Job Title: Finance Assistant Intern (No Experience UN Jobs)
Organisation: United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)
Duty Station: Adjumani, Uganda
The Finance Assistant is normally supervised by an Admin or Finance Officer who defines work objectives and provides regular advice and guidance. The incumbent’s workload and the assignments will remain under constant scrutiny and direction of the supervisor. The incumbent also refers to UNHCR Manuals and relevant policy papers on financial issues. The incumbent assists with the processing of financial transactions. S/he keeps frequent contact with staff at various levels in the office and with bank officials and suppliers to exchange information.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
Financial transactions and reconciliations are processed in line with relevant policies and procedures.
Assist newly arriving or departing international staff members on opening/closing bank account; process their entitlement upon assignment.
Coordinate with all Finance colleagues in the AoR and take meeting minutes.
Liaise with other functional units who work closely with Finance Unit on relevant issues as assigned by the supervisor.
If applicable, may be required to assist in the preparation of the VAT refund submissions and monitoring of the reimbursable amounts.
Maintain efficient and timely archiving system of physical and electronic files to ensure that all documents are accounted for.
Help prepare documentation and data for internal and external audits.
Verify that the financial transactions are correct and in accordance with UNHCR rules and procedures.
Provide general administrative support to the Finance Department.
Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Minimum qualifications required:
In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
Be either a recent graduate (having completed their studies within two years of applying) or a current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by IAU/UNESCO; and
Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of UNHCR.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
Eligibility:
In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
Recent graduate (those persons who completed their studies within one year of applying) or current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO; and
Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of the Organization.
Have professional certificates and or License on Finance, Business Administration, accounting An individual whose father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister is a staff member of UNHCR, including a Temporary Appointment holder or a member of the Affiliate Workforce, is not eligible for an internship.
Desirable qualifications and skills:
Experience in working with refugees/IDPs, or with finance/admin or achieving activities is desirable.
Basic understanding of financial principles and accounting practices.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Good communication and interpersonal skill
