Job Description
Job Title: Field Officer and Trainer for BISS Bakeries
Office Location: Mpererwe, Kampala
Work Locations: Primarily flexible, with (1 day) in the office and (4 days) visiting bakeries across Central & Eastern Uganda.
Start Date: 12th January 2025
We are seeking a dedicated and motivated Field Officer to support the development and improvement of existing BISS bakeries. Your main role will involve monitoring bakery performances, visiting underperforming bakeries to provide guidance, and working with entrepreneurs to enhance production, sales, and record-keeping. As part of your responsibilities, you will also back up the training team for the BISS Baking and Entrepreneurship training. This position will begin with an 8-week training starting January 12th, 2025.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Field Officer Duties:
Monitor and improve the performance of existing bakeries.
Support entrepreneurs in launching new bakeries.
Identify areas for improvement and introduce innovative solutions to optimize bakery operations.
Work closely with the office’s loan repayment section and provide reports to the Operations Manager.
Contribute to the establishment of new bakeries, including location selection and entrepreneur screening.
Assist in the selection process for new entrepreneurs.
Trainer Duties:
Serve as a back-up trainer for the BISS Baking and Entrepreneurship program.
Conduct training sessions in collaboration with an assistant trainer, following the established curriculum.
Liaise with the BISS head office for training support.
Oversee daily operations at the training center.
Participate in the selection of new students for the program.
Assist with the qualification process for loan applications related to start-up kits.
Evaluate and monitor the progress of graduates post-training.
Coordinate internships with partnering bakeries, including both BISS and external bakeries.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Passionate about empowering youth and vulnerable communities through baking.
Strong leadership and motivational qualities.
Deep interest in baking and its potential as a business.
Proven coaching and training skills, with teaching or training experience preferred.
Knowledge of baking practices and techniques is an advantage.
Business acumen and entrepreneurial mindset.
Excellent communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
