Job Description
As part of a proposal to support the Danish Refugee Council (DRC), SoCha LLC is planning a conflict analysis study focused on refugee-host community dynamics, security issues, and conflict resolution mechanisms in Northwestern Uganda. The assignment is contingent upon award. Successful candidates will conduct qualitative data collection through key informant interviews (KIIs), focus group discussions (FGDs), and direct community engagement. Researchers will ensure ethical, conflict-sensitive, and accurate data collection and documentation throughout the assignment.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Conduct qualitative data collection through KIIs, FGDs, and observations
Take structured and comprehensive field notes capturing key insights
Ensure high-quality, conflict-sensitive, and ethical research practices
Coordinate field visits with the Researcher/Field Coordinator
Engage local stakeholders including leaders, refugee representatives, and residents
Support translation and language facilitation as needed
Report daily findings to the research team
Maintain confidentiality and integrity of data collected

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Conflict Studies, Development Studies, or related field
At least 3 years’ experience in qualitative data collection, especially in conflict/humanitarian settings
Prior experience in refugee-host community environments is an added advantage
Fluency in one or more West Nile local languages (e.g., Lugbara, Kakwa, Madi, Alur) is highly desirable
Excellent documentation, note-taking, and analytical skills
Familiarity with conflict-sensitive and ethical research practices
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work independently in field-based environments and meet tight deadlines
