Job Description
The Farm Trainer (Agronomist) will play a key role in developing and delivering agricultural training to coffee farmers, providing technical assistance, and working closely with the community to implement best practices in farming. This position involves regular fieldwork, conducting evaluations, and tracking the progress of farmers based on tailored calendars. The trainer will collaborate with the Impact Director and Program Staff to enhance the program’s effectiveness and impact. Responsibilities also include record keeping, developing training content, conducting trials, and using data collection tools to assess outcomes.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Train and mentor coffee farmers on agronomic best practices
Provide technical assistance to improve crop yield and quality
Conduct field assessments and produce training materials
Promote sustainable farming within local communities
Lead monthly group and individual trainings per zone
Maintain written records of training content and follow-ups
Develop and implement training curriculums and calendars
Track farmer progress against agricultural practices calendars
Submit activity records, highlights, and challenges
Complete program evaluations as requested
Conduct field trials and contribute to research initiatives
Provide receipts and financial accountability to the Operations Director

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Degree or Diploma in Agriculture, Crop Production, or a related field
Minimum 3 years’ experience working directly with farmers or in agricultural training
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
Fluent in Kinyarwanda and English
Strong community engagement abilities
Familiarity with data collection tools such as KoboToolbox
Willingness to work and reside in Nyamasheke or Gakenke Districts
