Asili Agriculture
Asili Agriculture is a fully-mechanized largescale farming company with an integrated food security platform for East Africa that manages dual-season production of high quality maize and soybeans for supply to regional food processors. Asili became operational in January 2014 and is currently farming on over 7,000 ha of land in Western Uganda under a conservation agriculture and precision farming approach to maximize yields efficiently and sustainably.

Our Farm Hubs operate the largest staple foods farming enterprise in Uganda. We also operate grain storage and trading activities serving over 15,000 farmers and supplying over 40,000 MT of food annually. Our Producer Services Business Unit (PSBU) provides bundled services—agronomy, quality inputs supply, grain marketing and financial services—to smallscale producers (also known as smallholders) as well as customized farming services to large landowners. Our Digital Division develops AMSAF – a resilient food marketplace connecting all stakeholders - and implements digital solutions employed across our Hubs and PSBU. The Purpose of the role
The main role of the jobholder is to diagnose and repair the vehicle problems accurately and quickly. This position requires a mechanic who has a good understanding of electrical, hydraulic, engine and braking systems, transmission system & air conditioning. The role will report to the level 4 technician with dotted reporting lines to the technical supervisors and the workshop manager.
Reporting, record keeping and inputs management
Ensuring the machines have inputs (fuel, seed, fertilizer and chemicals) they need for the timely execution of their tasks,
Following up with the operators to ensure the inputs issued to equipment are properly and timely recorded in the inputs record books,
Timely submission of the inputs issued to the fields in iForm,
Timely submission of daily checklist data, 50h service & 250h service data into iForm,
Reporting any minor & major breakdowns, accidents, damages to any machine components
Preventive maintenance
Ensuring proper daily checklists are completed with the operators for the machines they are supervising and
submitting iForm records,
Alerting the team of mechanics in case of any unusual sound on a machine and equipment and following up to see that the machine is attended to,
Ensuring a 50h service is properly completed with the assistance of the mechanics on tractors, self-propelled sprayers and combines and submitting date is iForm,
Following up and ensuring a 250h service are done on a timely basis and iForm records are submitted as well
Corrective maintenance
Root cause analysis – Always pushing mechanics to do a root cause analysis so that breakdowns are solved once and for all
Supervising the mechanics in their work both in and off season
Confirming that the work is done well by the mechanics
Supporting mechanics with transport logistics and all they need to ensure work is done in the shortest time possible
Machine cleaning
Following up with operators to ensure they keep their machines clean as much as possible both in and outside the cab,
Checking tractor cabs and ensuring operators do not place spares in the machine cab i.e. under the operator seats & close to delicate areas like wind screens,
Supervising cleaning machines with the jet washer before any serious correcting mechanical is done on them to enable mechanics properly identify leakages sources
Reporting faults
Report faults as quickly as possible as soon as they are identified,
Sharing error codes with the mechanics to help them quickly identify issues 6. Perform any other work when called upon

At least 2 years of experience working in a farm of at least 1500 ha or a university degree in an Agricultural or any related field
Good leadership skills
Knowledge on how to carry out a range of agricultural activities which may include tillage, planting, harvesting, spraying & spreading
Strong working knowledge of workshop procedure, health and safety
Good communication skills
Good time management
Desirable
A certificate in doing basic servicing and mechanical work
A certificate for operating a range of farming machinery & equipment
Good leadership skills
Good team player
Competencies for this Role
Demonstrated understanding of electrical, hydraulic, engine, braking, transmission, and air conditioning systems.
Familiarity with various agricultural activities such as tillage, planting, harvesting, spraying, and spreading.
