Extension Officer job at Save the Children International Tanzania

Job Description

Save the Children seeks an Extension officer for a USAID Lishe (Nutrition) Project in Tanzania. The Extension officer will be responsible for advising farmers, agricultural businesses, rural industries, government and other development partners on appropriate practices for agricultural production, processing and distribution of farm produce. He/she will work directly with farmers and private sectors, sharing information and improved agricultural techniques suitable for the target locations. The Extension officer will facilitate formation and capacity building of farmers’ groups to enable them make better decisions and access required products and services to increase agricultural production; promote collaboration among partners in the implementation of the project; ensure good relations/ communication between private sectors, government agencies and farmers.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and Implementation of SBCC Strategies: Develop and implement SBCC strategies that promote positive social and behavior changes, particularly around gender-related issues such as women’s empowerment, gender equality, and the prevention of gender-based violence.

  • Gender Integration in Programs: Ensure that gender equality principles are integrated into the design, implementation, and evaluation of communication and behavior change programs.

  • Community Mobilization: Work with local communities to raise awareness of gender issues, challenge harmful gender norms, and promote gender-responsive behavior changes.

  • Development of Communication Materials: Develop culturally appropriate and gender-sensitive communication materials, such as brochures, radio spots, social media content, and videos, to effectively reach target audiences.

  • Capacity Building: Train and build the capacity of staff, local partners, and community members on SBCC strategies and gender-responsive programming.

  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Monitor the effectiveness of communication strategies and gender interventions using key performance indicators (KPIs) and conduct impact assessments to measure behavioral changes and program success.

  • Advocacy and Policy Engagement: Collaborate with policy makers, donors, and government agencies to advocate for gender equality and SBCC approaches in national and local policies.

  • Data Collection and Research: Conduct or oversee formative research and gender analysis to inform the development of communication strategies. Use qualitative and quantitative data to evaluate program outcomes.
