Job Description
The Environmental and Social Development Specialist will:
Lead and contribute to E&S assessments, identifying and mitigating risks for financial intermediaries.
Develop Environmental and Social Management Systems (ESMS) for clients.
Oversee compliance with IFC standards throughout the project lifecycle.
Conduct portfolio monitoring and support capacity building for clients.
Engage with compliance and evaluation groups, ensuring high-quality deliverables and reports.
Supervise consultants and contribute to policy interpretations and regional supervision programs.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Lead or contribute to the review and mitigation of E&S risks in investment projects.
Guide clients in developing and implementing ESMS.
Monitor client compliance and document risks and performance gaps.
Develop and enforce E&S legal conditions in project agreements.
Supervise portfolio projects, particularly high-risk engagements.
Support regional and cross-regional policy development and capacity-building initiatives.
Provide briefings on E&S matters to IFC management.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Advanced degree (Master’s) in science, engineering, or related disciplines.
Minimum 10 years of E&S management or due diligence experience, preferably in Africa.
Familiarity with IFC/World Bank E&S Policies and Standards.
Experience in emerging markets and fragile environments.
Strong project management and analytical skills.
Proficiency in English; French is an advantage.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Willingness to travel regularly and adapt to dynamic environments.
