The Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU) is a statutory body established under Section 9 of the Petroleum (Exploration, Development and Production Act 2013, and in line with the National Oil and Gas Policy for Uganda which was approved in 2008. The PAU’s mandate is to monitor and regulate the exploration, development and production, together with the refining, gas conversion, transportation and storage of petroleum in Uganda. This includes ensuring that petroleum operations in Uganda are carried out in accordance with the relevant laws, regulations, guidelines, statutes and in line with international best practice for the petroleum industry.

Job Description
Job Title: Environment Officer – Engineering
Organisation: Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU)
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Advise on policies, regulations, standards, strategies, guidelines and plans regarding technology required to meet the challenges of environment degradation and/or pollution, including cross-cutting issues such as climate change in oil and gas, energy, and mineral development projects.
Participate in a review of technical reports to ensure that the proposed technology meets the challenges of environmental degradation and/or pollution
Advise on pollution control and waste management strategies and plans for the Oil and Gas Sector.
Inspect and monitor field operations to ensure compliance with environmental regulatory requirements, standards, and guidelines.
Create awareness/ promotion of technology required to meet the requirements of degradation and/or pollution in the Sector.
Participate in the preparation, implementation and/or review of Environment Assessments and Risk Assessments.
Undertake periodic site Audits and follow-up on identified environmental issues
Participate in inspection of facilities, machinery, and equipment to facilitate relevant certification and compliance with environmental regulatory requirements, including, standards and guidelines
Implement the roles of the PAU as the Competent National Authority for the implementation of the National Oil Spill Contingency Plan (NOSCP).
Any other duties as shall be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
An Honors Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Technology or any related engineering disciplines from an internationally recognized institution
Added advantage:
Required experience:
Three (3) years of relevant working experience.
