Job Description

An Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Officer is responsible for developing and implementing safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe and healthy working environment, as well as regulatory compliance. Key responsibilities include:
Policy Implementation: Enforcing health, safety, and environmental policies and ensuring compliance with local and national regulations.
Risk Assessment: Conducting regular inspections and risk assessments to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
Training and Education: Providing training sessions on safety practices, emergency response, and equipment handling to employees.
Incident Management: Investigating workplace incidents or accidents to determine causes and prevent future occurrences.
Record Keeping and Reporting: Maintaining safety records, preparing reports, and ensuring documentation is complete for compliance audits.
Skills needed for this role include strong knowledge of EHS regulations, attention to detail, communication skills, and problem-solving abilities.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Key Result Areas:
Draft, implement and maintain policies and guidelines on Environment, Health and Safety.
Develop, implement, administer, and maintain EHS protocol of use of PPEs and adherence to safety and health related programs.
Review and update the corporate EHS management system manual and monitor its implementation.
Prepare EHS training plan and in coordination with the Human Resource Department provide relevant training to staff.
Formulating corporate short term and long term EHS objectives and plans.
Carry out accident and incident investigations.
Promote EHS plans and monitor, evaluate and report performance against plan.
Maintain auditing expertise and ensure execution of the quarterly audit program.
Maintain contacts with external parties regarding environment, Health and Safety, including government institutions.
Provide advice on Environment, Health and safety to line departments.
Promote the potential incident reporting culture by compiling all filled in reports.
Adhere to the health and safety and QMS guidelines at all times.
Compile EHS data and report all reportable incidents to HOD accurately and within specified time frame.
Perform any other duties assigned by the SHEQ/ Compliance Manager

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Educational Qualifications and Experience
The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree of Science in Environmental Science or Industrial Chemistry and any other related discipline.
At least two years of relevant experience in a similar field is required
Knowledge of various laws, regulations, guidelines, procedures affecting a manufacturing organization.
Ability to work independently in carrying out assignments to completion.
Effective verbal and written communication.
Professional personal presentation.
Customer service orientation skills.
Considerable ability to adhere to prescribed routines and practices; and compose effective and accurate correspondence.
Dealing with non-routine matters, such as special projects, with minimum specific instructions.
Familiarity with the tools, concepts and methodologies of system management.
Decision making skills is required.
