Job Description
The Environment and Biodiversity Intern will be responsible for supporting various initiatives aimed at conserving biodiversity and ensuring environmental compliance along the pipeline route. The intern will assist in monitoring flora and fauna, contribute to the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process, and help develop and implement environmental management plans. Additional responsibilities include data collection and analysis, organizing biodiversity databases, and preparing detailed environmental reports. The role also involves working with community stakeholders, government bodies such as NEMA and NFA, and contributing to awareness programs and environmental research.
The intern will be based in the EACOP Office in Kampala and will report directly to the Environment and Biodiversity Manager. He/she will also collaborate closely with project and contractor teams under the supervision of the Environment and Biodiversity Team.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Assist with biodiversity assessments and regular monitoring along the pipeline route.
Collect and analyze data related to ecosystems, plant, and animal species.
Support Environmental Impact Assessment processes and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
Participate in the development and implementation of Environmental Management Plans.
Engage with local communities, NGOs, and government stakeholders to promote sustainable environmental practices.
Organize and manage environmental and biodiversity data systems.
Prepare periodic reports on biodiversity status and environmental compliance.
Conduct research on trends in environmental science and biodiversity conservation.
Facilitate awareness sessions and community outreach related to biodiversity.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Currently pursuing a degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Engineering, or a related field from a recognized university.
Must submit an official university introduction letter and a copy of the student ID.
A partial transcript/testimonial showing current academic performance with a minimum of an upper-second class degree.
Must be available to work full-time during the internship period.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Keen interest in biodiversity, ecology, and sustainability.
Ability to work independently and in team environments.
High level of integrity and ability to handle sensitive data responsibly.
Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
Must submit a formal internship application letter.
