An Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) Maintenance Engineer is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical systems and instrumentation equipment in industrial settings. This role is critical in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of machinery and processes in industries such as manufacturing, oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, and utilities.

Installation and Commissioning:

  • Oversee the installation of electrical systems, control systems, and instrumentation equipment.

  • Ensure all installations comply with technical specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.

  • Commission new systems and equipment, conducting functional and performance tests.


Maintenance and Repair:

  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs for electrical and instrumentation systems.

  • Perform routine inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs to maintain system integrity and reliability.

  • Replace or repair defective components and ensure equipment is operating efficiently.


Calibration and Testing:

  • Calibrate instrumentation to ensure accurate measurements and control.

  • Conduct regular testing of electrical and instrumentation systems to verify proper operation.

  • Maintain calibration records and documentation in compliance with industry standards.


Troubleshooting and Diagnostics:

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues in electrical and instrumentation systems using diagnostic tools and software.

  • Analyze system performance data to identify potential problems and implement corrective actions.

  • Work with other engineers and technicians to resolve complex technical issues.

Project Management:

  • Manage maintenance projects from planning through execution, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.

  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including production, engineering, and procurement, to ensure project success.

  • Ensure all projects are completed on time, within budget, and to specified quality standards.


Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including inspections, repairs, and modifications.

  • Prepare detailed reports on system performance, maintenance issues, and corrective actions.

  • Update technical documentation, including schematics, manuals, and procedures.


Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations.

  • Implement and enforce safety protocols to protect personnel and equipment.

  • Conduct safety audits and risk assessments to identify and mitigate hazards.


Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for improving system efficiency, reliability, and performance.

  • Implement process improvements and technological upgrades to enhance operational effectiveness.

  • Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in electrical and instrumentation maintenance

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related field.

  • Advanced degrees or specialized training in electrical and instrumentation systems are advantageous.


Certifications:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred and may be required for certain positions.

  • Relevant certifications from recognized institutions (e.g., ISA Certified Control Systems Technician - CCST) are beneficial.

  • Certification in safety standards (e.g., OSHA, NFPA) is advantageous.


Experience:

  • Several years of experience in electrical and instrumentation maintenance, preferably in an industrial setting.

  • Experience with specific systems and technologies used in the relevant industry.


Skills and Competencies:

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in electrical systems, instrumentation, control systems, and related technologies.

  • Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving and diagnostic abilities.


  • Project Management: Ability to manage maintenance projects, including planning, execution, and coordination.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for reporting and teamwork.

  • Attention to Detail: Precision in maintenance activities and documentation.

  • Teamwork: Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.


Knowledge:

  • In-depth understanding of electrical engineering principles, instrumentation, and control systems.

  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures.


Physical and Other Requirements:

  • Physical stamina to perform tasks that involve standing, climbing, and lifting.

  • Ability to work in various environments, including industrial and outdoor settings.

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and on-call shifts if necessary.

  • Capability to handle high-pressure situations and work efficiently under deadlines.
