Job Purpose
B2P is a purpose-driven organization, focused on rapidly scaling our solution globally. To support our ambitious growth strategy, we are on the hunt for a East Africa Finance Director who is responsible for full cycle financial reporting for program countries, the development of financial metrics and data analytics, and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve company assets and report accurate financial results. This role will initially require a hands-on approach to develop business processes and train other finance staff.
Duties and Responsibilities
Finance and Planning
Oversee program country cash flow planning and ensure availability of funds as needed.
Maintain in program country banking relationships
Coordinate the development and monitoring of budgets for program countries
Represent the organization to local financial partners, including financial institutions, investors, foundation executives, auditors, public officials, etc.
Remain up to date on nonprofit audit best practices in program countries
Accounting and Administration
Management program accounting staff on a day-to-day basis to ensure proper maintenance of all accounting systems and functions
Maintain and approve appropriate internal controls and financial policies & procedures
Review monthly transactions for all program countries – including but not limited to Rwanda, Uganda, Ethiopia, Zambia, Côte d’Ivoire, and Kenya and future country expansion
Review the capabilities and capacity of the regional finance department and provide and implement recommendations for improvement by evaluating, training, or coaching the individuals and the team as a whole
Review and prepare as necessary program country journal entries
Prepare standalone monthly program country financial statements
Prepare variance reports and explanations against budget
Assist country managers and directors with budgets and forecasts
Lead and coordinate local country audits and proper filing of tax returns as required by working with local accounting staff and public accounting firms
Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions
HQ Payroll and Employee Benefits Management
Oversee and approve monthly payroll processing in each program country
Work with the Director of Talent to implement and country employee benefits including medical, paid time off and professional development plans
Time tracking and salary expense allocations
Legal and Risk Management
Understand and mitigate key exposure points within the organization’s risk profile
Oversee local legal representation engaged as needed for local advice and compliance
Construct and monitor reliable control systems
Assist program managers and directors with evaluating and maintaining appropriate insurance coverage in country
Ensure that the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements
Ensure that record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies
Additional Responsibilities:
Standard data analytics related to accrued revenue, days outstanding for government reimbursements, bridge project costs, and allocations
Ad hoc data analytics as needed

Qualifications include:
A minimum of a BS in Accounting and CPA K or similar designation
A Masters in a relevant field is preferred
A mix of public and private industry preferred
At least 7 years experience in a key financial role, preferably in an organization with a budget of at least $5 million, experience partnering with senior staff, resulting in the development and implementation of creative financial management strategies.
Non-profit management experience is a plus
Experience managing staff both local and remote: cross-cultural experience a plus
Significant experience in or knowledge of nonprofit accounting, including fund and grant accounting, compliance, and reporting
Experience with organization set-up and registration in the region
Experience working with information technology staff to manage finance and accounting software packages.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated leadership ability, team management, and interpersonal skills.
Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills, plus excellent organization skills.
Working knowledge of East African corporate, financial and tax law and risk management practices
Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods
The candidate should preferably be an East African national or an East African permanent resident
