The Driver will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of district vehicles, ensuring that all transportation needs for Mitooma District Service Commission and other district departments are met. The role includes transporting personnel, materials, and equipment to various locations, maintaining the assigned vehicle in good working condition, and adhering to traffic regulations and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Transportation Services
Safely transport district staff, visitors, and goods to various destinations as directed by the supervisor.
Ensure punctuality and readiness for all assigned trips, including official meetings, workshops, and field visits.
Assist in loading and unloading items into the vehicle when required.
Vehicle Maintenance
Perform routine checks on the vehicle to ensure it is in good operating condition. This includes inspecting brakes, tires, oil, water, battery, lights, and signals before and after trips.
Report any mechanical faults, damages, or required repairs to the supervisor and ensure timely servicing and maintenance.
Maintain the cleanliness of the vehicle, both interior and exterior.
Record Keeping
Accurately log all trips in the vehicle logbook, detailing fuel consumption, mileage, and destinations.
Maintain records of vehicle repairs, services, and insurance updates.
Ensure vehicle documents such as insurance, registration, and roadworthiness are up to date.
Compliance with Safety and Traffic Laws
Adhere to all road safety and traffic regulations, including speed limits, seatbelt use, and safe driving practices.
Ensure passengers comply with safety procedures during transit, such as wearing seat belts.
Remain courteous and professional while driving and interacting with passengers, ensuring a safe and comfortable journey.
Administrative Support
Support the district administration with occasional office errands, such as delivering documents, purchasing supplies, and running minor office tasks.
Assist in emergency transport arrangements when required.

Required Qualifications and Experience
Education:
A minimum of an Ordinary Level Certificate of Education (O-Level).
Driver’s License:
A valid driving permit for at least Classes B, CM, and DL. Additional classes are an advantage.
Experience:
A minimum of three (3) years of professional driving experience, preferably in a government or public institution.
Knowledge of basic vehicle mechanics is an advantage.
Key Skills and Competencies
Strong knowledge of traffic laws and road safety regulations.
Excellent driving skills with a clean driving record.
Basic mechanical skills to perform minor repairs and maintenance.
Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
Strong organizational skills for record-keeping.
Punctuality and ability to manage time effectively.
Ability to work well under pressure and handle emergency situations calmly.
Physical fitness, as the role may require long hours of driving and lifting items.

APPLICATIONS PROCEDURE
Applications are invited from suitably qualified Ugandans to fill vacant posts specified herein. Applications should be submitted in triplicate (3 copies) on PSC Form 3 (Revised 2008) to the Secretary District Service Commission Mitooma District PO Box 98, Bushenyi not later than 18th OCTOBER, 2024
Application forms are attainable from the office of Secretaries of District Service Commission Countrywide and Public Service Commission Kampala.
Candidates should attach certified photocopies of academic transcripts, certificates and professional papers, National identity cards and Identity cards of all schools and institutions attended, Curriculum Vites plus 3 recent identical passport size photographs.
The application forms should bear the title of the post as well as the reference number specified against the vacancy.
