Lira University is one of the public Universities in Uganda. It started as a Constituent College of Gulu University in 2009 and attained autonomy as a fully-fledged Public University through an Act Parliament under Statutory Instrument 2015 No. 35 on the 16th July, 2015.
It was established on a niche of training students in Health Sciences. It has the first University Teaching Hospital in Uganda.

Lira University is a Public University pursuant to Statutory Instrument No. 35 of 16 July 2015 under The University's and other Tertiary Institutions Act 2001 (as amended 2006). Applications are invited from suitably qualified and interested candidates for the following post.
Transporting Passengers or Goods: Safely drive vehicles to transport passengers, goods, or materials from one location to another as assigned. Ensure timely arrival at the destination while following the most efficient route.
Vehicle Maintenance and Inspection: Conduct routine checks on vehicles to ensure they are in good working condition. This includes checking oil levels, tire pressure, brakes, lights, and other critical systems. Report any issues or necessary repairs to the appropriate personnel.
Loading and Unloading: Assist with the loading and unloading of goods, ensuring items are secured properly for transit. Handle goods with care to prevent damage and ensure they are delivered in good condition.
Adhering to Traffic Laws: Follow all local, state, and federal traffic laws and regulations to ensure safe driving practices. Maintain awareness of road conditions and adjust driving accordingly to ensure safety.
Navigating Routes: Plan and follow the most efficient routes using maps, GPS devices, or route planning software. Adjust routes as needed due to traffic, weather, or road conditions to minimize delays.
Keeping Records: Maintain accurate records of deliveries, including mileage, fuel consumption, delivery times, and any incidents or delays. Submit reports to supervisors or managers as required.
Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service by communicating politely and professionally with passengers, clients, or recipients of goods. Address any questions or concerns they may have during the trip.
Compliance with Safety Regulations: Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, including the use of seat belts, vehicle weight limits, and cargo securement. Follow company policies for safe driving practices and emergency procedures.
Handling Cash and Receipts: For some roles, drivers may be responsible for collecting payment, providing receipts, or managing cash transactions related to deliveries or passenger transport.
Emergency Response: Be prepared to respond appropriately in case of vehicle breakdowns, accidents, or other emergencies. This includes following company protocols, notifying emergency services, and ensuring the safety of passengers or cargo.
Maintaining Cleanliness: Keep the vehicle clean and presentable, both inside and out. Regularly clean the vehicle and remove any trash or debris to maintain a pleasant environment for passengers or when transporting goods.

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is generally preferred, but not always required, depending on the employer and specific driving role.
Valid Driver’s License: Must have a valid driver’s license appropriate for the type of vehicle being driven. This could range from a standard driver’s license for personal or light commercial vehicles to a commercial driver’s license (CDL) for larger vehicles like trucks or buses.
Clean Driving Record: A clean driving record with no recent traffic violations or accidents is usually required. Employers may perform background checks to verify driving history.
Experience: Previous driving experience is often preferred, especially for roles involving commercial vehicles or specialized transport. The required experience can range from a few months to several years, depending on the job.
Knowledge of Traffic Laws: A thorough understanding of local, state, and federal traffic laws and regulations, including rules specific to commercial vehicles if applicable.
Physical Fitness: Good physical health and stamina are often required, especially for roles that involve loading and unloading goods, driving long distances, or operating heavy vehicles.
Customer Service Skills: Strong customer service skills for interacting with passengers, clients, and recipients. The ability to communicate clearly and professionally is important.
Time Management Skills: Good time management skills to plan routes efficiently, meet delivery schedules, and handle unexpected delays.
Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail to follow driving routes, ensure vehicle maintenance, and comply with safety regulations.
Mechanical Knowledge: Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and the ability to perform simple repairs or troubleshooting in case of minor mechanical issues.
Dependability and Reliability: High reliability and punctuality, as drivers must adhere to strict schedules and ensure timely deliveries or transport.
Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to quickly and effectively handle unexpected situations, such as traffic delays, route changes, or vehicle breakdowns.
Flexibility and Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to different driving conditions, schedules, and requirements. Drivers may need to work varying hours, including nights, weekends, or holidays.
