Job Description
Job Title: Driver
Organisation: SOS Children’s Villages
Duty Station: Mayuge, Uganda
The Driver will provide safe and efficient transportation for authorized personnel, equipment, and materials in support of project activities. The role includes vehicle maintenance, adherence to traffic and organizational policies, and supporting office-related tasks when required. The driver will ensure vehicles are well-maintained, ready for long trips, and compliant with safety standards.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Transportation Services:
Transport project personnel, children, and equipment to various locations across Uganda as required for project activities.
Adhere to the transport schedules provided by program staff and ensure punctuality.
Vehicle Maintenance and Safety:
Maintain project vehicles in good mechanical condition, including routine servicing, oil changes, and cleaning.
Ensure the vehicle is stocked with a first aid kit and essential tools for long trips or rough terrain.
Monitor vehicle fuel usage and mileage, keeping accurate records in the vehicle logbook.
Schedule and carry out routine maintenance and report any issues to the administration team.
Compliance and Record Keeping:
Observe all company vehicle utilization policies and comply with Uganda’s traffic laws.
Complete the vehicle logbook daily and ensure all trips are documented with staff signatures. Submit logbooks for review and approval weekly.
Office Support:
Perform routine office errands such as collecting and delivering mail, making bank deposits and withdrawals, refueling vehicles, and purchasing office items.
Assist in general office tasks, including photocopying, binding, filing, and moving furniture when needed.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education and Certifications:
Minimum O-Level certificate.
Possession of a valid Driver’s License (Classes B, CM, DL).
Experience:
At least 6 years of professional driving experience.
Defensive driving skills and motor vehicle mechanics knowledge are added advantages.
Prior experience working with NGOs is an added advantage.
Skills and Competencies:
Strong knowledge of Uganda’s traffic laws and safe driving practices.
Proficiency in oral and written English.
Ability to maintain accurate records and complete necessary documentation.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact professionally with staff and clients.
