Job Description

Job Title:  Dispensing Nurse (Fresher Jobs)

Organisation: LifeLink Medical Group

Duty Station:  Kampala, Uganda


The Dispensing Nurse is responsible for providing professional nursing care with a focus on medication dispensing and patient education. This role involves preparing and administering prescribed medications, ensuring compliance with medical guidelines, and providing patients with accurate information about their treatments.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  1. Medication Dispensing and Administration

    • Accurately prepare, dispense, and administer prescribed medications as directed by physicians.

    • Verify prescriptions for accuracy and appropriateness based on patient needs.

    • Educate patients on medication use, potential side effects, and storage instructions.

  2. Patient Care and Support

    • Conduct initial and follow-up assessments of patients' medical conditions.

    • Monitor patients for adverse drug reactions and report issues to the physician or pharmacist.

    • Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients undergoing treatment.

  3. Record Keeping and Compliance

    • Maintain detailed and accurate patient records, including administered medications and observed side effects.

    • Adhere to all regulatory guidelines related to medication dispensing and nursing care.

    • Participate in inventory management, ensuring medications are stored and handled safely.

  4. Collaboration and Communication

    • Work closely with healthcare professionals, including physicians and pharmacists, to deliver coordinated care.

    • Provide feedback on patient progress and medication efficacy.

  5. Education and Advocacy

    • Offer guidance on lifestyle modifications and preventive health measures relevant to patients' treatment plans.

    • Promote adherence to prescribed treatments through effective patient education.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

Qualifications

  1. Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.

  2. Valid nursing license or registration with the [National Nursing Council or equivalent body].

  3. Training or certification in medication dispensing is an added advantage.


Skills and Competencies

  • Strong understanding of pharmacology and medication administration.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure and handle sensitive patient information with confidentiality.

  • Proficiency in using electronic medical record (EMR) systems.


Work Environment

  • Clinical or healthcare setting.

  • May require standing for long periods and occasional lifting of medical supplies.


Additional Requirements

  • Up-to-date immunizations and medical clearance for clinical work.

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends or holidays, as needed.
