The Center for Health, Human Rights and Development (CEHURD) is an indigenous Non-Governmental Organisation that has been in existence for 15 years whose mandate is to pioneer the justiciability of the right to health in eastern Africa. The organisation is an equal opportunity employer and exists to advance health rights of vulnerable communities through litigation, advocacy and research. This mission is achieved through five strategic objectives that include: promoting sustainable access to justice; positioning health and human rights as a strategy for sustainable development; enhancing institutional and programmatic growth; building community capacities and agency and strengthening institutional capacity.

  • Program Development: Lead the development of program strategies, goals, and objectives in alignment with the organization's mission and strategic priorities. Identify emerging needs, trends, and opportunities for new program initiatives.

  • Strategic Planning: Collaborate with senior leadership and stakeholders to develop and implement strategic plans for programmatic growth and impact. Ensure that program activities are aligned with the organization's overall strategic direction and goals.

  • Budgeting and Resource Allocation: Develop and manage program budgets, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively to support program activities and objectives. Monitor expenditures, track financial performance, and make adjustments as needed to optimize resource utilization.

  • Project Management: Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of program projects and activities. Assign tasks, set timelines, and ensure that project deliverables are completed on schedule and within budget.

  • Staff Supervision and Development: Provide leadership and guidance to program staff, including program managers, coordinators, and support personnel. Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment, promote professional development, and conduct performance evaluations.

  • Partnership Development: Cultivate and maintain partnerships with external stakeholders, including government agencies, nonprofit organizations, funders, and community groups. Collaborate with partners to leverage resources, share best practices, and maximize program impact.

  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Develop and implement systems for monitoring and evaluating program performance, outcomes, and impact. Collect and analyze data, track key performance indicators, and prepare reports to assess program effectiveness and inform decision-making.

  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that program activities and interventions adhere to best practices, evidence-based approaches, and ethical standards. Monitor program quality, compliance with regulations and standards, and adherence to grant requirements.

  • Advocacy and Public Relations: Advocate for program priorities, goals, and impact with external stakeholders, policymakers, and the public. Represent the organization at conferences, meetings, and events to raise awareness of programmatic issues and achievements.

  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks and challenges that may impact program implementation or outcomes. Develop risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans to address challenges and minimize adverse impacts on program delivery.

  • Strategic Partnerships and Fundraising: Collaborate with the development team to identify funding opportunities, cultivate donor relationships, and secure funding to support program activities and initiatives. Participate in grant writing, proposal development, and donor stewardship efforts.

  • Learning and Innovation: Promote a culture of learning, innovation, and continuous improvement within the program team. Encourage experimentation, reflection, and adaptation to enhance program effectiveness and responsiveness to changing needs.

  • Policy Development and Advocacy: Stay informed about relevant policies, regulations, and trends affecting the organization's programmatic areas. Advocate for policy changes or reforms to advance program goals and address systemic barriers to success.

  • Representation and Networking: Represent the organization and its programs in various forums, conferences, and meetings with stakeholders, partners, and funders. Build and maintain a network of contacts within the field to stay informed about emerging issues and opportunities.
