Job Description
The Deputy Principals are responsible for assisting the Principals in the academic and administrative leadership of their respective colleges.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Deputy Principals are responsible for assisting the Principals in the academic and administrative leadership of their respective colleges.
They oversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of the academic programs and research activities in collaboration with the Deans, Heads of Departments and other stakeholders.
They also ensure the quality and relevance of the teaching and learning processes, the academic staff development and welfare, and the student affairs and support services.
They represent the interests of their colleges in various university committees and forums, and liaise with external partners and donors.
They perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Principals or the University Management.

Qualifications and Competencies
Eligible candidates should possess the following A Deputy Principal is a Deputy head of a College
minimum attributes:
Hold a PhD or other academic Doctorate in a relevant discipline;
Be at least at the rank of Associate Professor at the time of application;
Four (4) years of managerial experience in an institution of higher learning or a reputable research institution with a track record of having served at least as a head of an academic department or an academic programmes coordinator or research project manager;
Teaching experience of at least Six (6) years in one of the disciplines offered in the College he/she intends to lead;
Applicants at the rank of Associate Professor should not be above 61 years of age at the time of application;
Applicants who are at the rank of Professor should not be above 66 years of age at the time of application;
Applicants must have demonstrable experience in networking, research and resource mobilisation.
The Deputy Principal deputises the Principal of a College and performs such other duties as may be assigned by the Principal in accordance with the laid down procedures of Makerere University.
Term of office
The Deputy Principal is appointed for a term of four years and may be renewed for one further term only.
Salary: Scale M4
