Job Description
The Customs Analyst will play a crucial role in managing the processes related to the application and reconciliation of tax stamps. This includes the forecasting and ordering of tax stamps, ensuring proper documentation, and verifying stamps received from suppliers. The position also involves reconciling discrepancies between received stamps and amounts disbursed to the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA). Additionally, the Customs Analyst will handle the DTS stocktaking process, participate in audits, and support the tax team in managing any discrepancies or issues related to DTS operations. The role also includes reviewing and validating daily and monthly reports, engaging internal stakeholders, and conducting system audits of DTS platforms.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Accurate forecasting and ordering of tax stamps
Ensuring proper documentation and payment for all stamp orders
Reconciliation of disbursed amounts to URA vs stamps received
Reviewing shift reports for beer packaging and IDU
Manual activation of paper stamps for imports and locally manufactured goods
Regular review of DTS Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions
Overseeing DTS stocktaking and submission of monthly DTS rejects forms
Maintaining reconciliation of stamps, including damages and returns
Preparing monthly end-to-end DTS reconciliation reports
Engaging internal stakeholders on DTS matters
Conducting audits and investigations on DTS platforms (e.g., SAP, DTS web portal, DHL DTS web portal)
Performing weekly walkabouts to verify DTS information and identify risks

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor's degree in Business or related field
At least 2-3 years’ experience in an operational environment with responsibility for data analytics
Knowledge of the tax system is an added advantage
Proficiency in SAP and Microsoft Office, especially advanced Excel and data analysis
Strong stakeholder management and leadership skills
Ability to analyze data with attention to detail
Excellent people relations skills
Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage workload in a fast-paced environment
Self-starter with a collaborative mindset
Ability to generate insights and recommendations from multiple data sources
