Job Description
Job Title: Counsellor - Bwaise -GBV shelter (1) positions
Reports to: Project Legal Officer - GBV
Responsible for: None
Directorate: Programme and Fundraising Manager
Location: Bwaise GBV shelter
Job role:
The Counsellor will be responsible for providing psychosocial support and comprehensive to survivors of GBV at the Bwaise Gender Based Violence Shelter. The counsellor will be responsible for and oversee the welfare of the survivors at the Shelter. He/She while working with the legal officer will ensure activity implementation, compiling quality project narrative reports in compliance with AAIU and donor standards. The role supports advocacy, resource mobilization and public engagements while documenting and sharing project success stories
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Key Result Areas:
Work closely with the Project Legal officer to implement project activities as the project donor and AAIU requirements.
Provide psychosocial support services / counselling/ SRH rights information to clients and initiate strategies to resolve the conflict.
Conduct follow up and support visits to survivors of GBV.
Conduct community awareness raising, dialogue and advocacy activities on GBV and SRH.
Ensure the GBV shelter is maintained in a standard, hygienically clean and orderly manner.
Receive, document, and maintain confidential case records of clients at the Shelter.
Supervise the Shelter attendant and matron in their execution of day-to-day activities at the GBVS
Prepare and submit activity, monthly and quarterly reports on cases handled with clear disaggregated data.
Take lead in updating of cases on the available MIS systems including the NGBV data by Ministry of gender, labour, and social development.
Medical Care and First Aid: Provide basic medical care to survivors of gender-based violence (GBV), addressing immediate health needs such as wound care, treating injuries, and managing infections or other medical conditions related to the abuse.
HIV/STI Prevention and Testing: Provide HIV and STI testing, counselling, and prevention education. Liaise with health facilities to administer post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) when necessary to prevent HIV after sexual assault.
Support with resource mobilisation.
Any other roles assigned by the line manager.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education:
A university degree in counselling
A diploma in nursing and HIV testing
A TASO certificate
A certificate in SRHR is an added advantage.
Professional Work experience:
Minimum 3 years of progressively responsible relevant work experience in the field of nursing and counselling, of which at least two years acquired providing hands on services to women and children.
Proven experience in working on HIV/STI Prevention and Testing.
Skills and Competencies:
Knowledge of GBV and SRHR.
Proven conceptual and analytical skills
Effective planning and organizing ability
Capacity to follow up and coordinate independently with minimal supervision
Proven ability to work efficiently in a dynamic and multicultural team environment
Excellent coordination and interpersonal skills
Proven capacity to build and maintain effective partnerships inside and outside the organization.
Ability to work under pressure
