Girls Not Brides: The Global Partnership to End Child Marriage

Job Description

The Communications Consultant will collaborate with the Africa Team and Communications Team to develop and execute strategic communication activities in alignment with Girls Not Brides' objectives. Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing a short-term communications plan to support regional and national advocacy efforts.

  • Creating digital content such as social media posts, blog articles, short videos, and impact stories.

  • Engaging with media by drafting press releases, pitching stories, and identifying opportunities to highlight key issues.

  • Developing communication materials aligned with advocacy campaigns and events.

  • Monitoring and analyzing media coverage and digital engagement on child marriage in Africa.

  • Supporting strategic storytelling that amplifies the voices and experiences of girls and grassroots partners.

  • Providing technical input on communication activities for national and regional initiatives.

Location: Remote (Candidates based in Africa are strongly encouraged to apply)

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a regional communications strategy.

  • Create and manage content for digital platforms, ensuring alignment with advocacy goals.

  • Collaborate with media outlets to enhance the visibility of Girls Not Brides and its mission.

  • Analyze media trends and digital engagement to refine communication approaches.

  • Ensure storytelling efforts are ethical, inclusive, and centered on lived experiences.

  • Support event-related communication efforts.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

  • Proven experience in communications, journalism, or advocacy in international development, human rights, or gender equality.

  • Strong writing and storytelling skills for diverse audiences and platforms.

  • Experience in digital content creation and social media strategy, particularly in African contexts.

  • Knowledge of the African media landscape and experience engaging with journalists.

  • Familiarity with gender and social impact movements, with a commitment to feminist principles.

  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines while collaborating effectively with diverse teams.

  • Fluency in English is required; proficiency in French is an added advantage.
