Job Description
Position: Communication Officer
The Communication Officer is tasked with creating and executing a comprehensive communication strategy that aligns with PEAS’ organizational objectives, boosting visibility and impact. This role involves overseeing internal and external communication efforts, ensuring information is effectively disseminated across media channels, and generating engaging content to highlight PEAS’ achievements. The Communication Officer will spearhead initiatives to elevate PEAS’ profile both nationally and internationally, craft compelling human interest stories, manage social media platforms, and ensure consistent branding across all communications. Additionally, this position supports business development and fosters collaboration with strategic partners, donors, and stakeholders.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Communication Strategy Development and Implementation
Design and execute a communication strategy aligned with PEAS' global mission and goals.
Identify impactful stories for internal and external audiences, collaborating with senior leadership for effective dissemination.
Regularly assess and update communication plans to ensure they align with organizational priorities.
Media and Branding
Lead media-facing initiatives and select appropriate media channels to engage target audiences.
Create various communication materials (brochures, leaflets, videos, social media content) to promote PEAS’ work in Uganda.
Ensure brand consistency and accessibility across events, messages, and products.
Cultivate and maintain relationships with national and local media outlets to enhance PEAS’ visibility.
Content Creation and Management
Develop human interest stories from field activities, highlighting PEAS’ impact.
Oversee digital media content creation for PEAS’ social media platforms and website.
Assist in the creation of both online and offline business development tools.
Collaborate with teams to gather, organize, and update website content.
Collaboration and Representation
Partner with the Business Development and Programmes teams to collect and prepare materials for events and donor outreach.
Represent PEAS at external meetings and events, ensuring adherence to communication guidelines.
Coordinate media field trips, coverage, and events to boost PEAS’ presence.
Knowledge Sharing and Capacity Building
Enhance knowledge management systems by creating and maintaining templates, processes, and communication resources.
Train staff on communication strategies and tools to ensure consistent messaging across departments.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Qualifications
Essential:
Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, or a related field.
At least 4 years of experience in a similar communication role.
Exceptional communication and creative writing skills, with proficiency in computer applications.
Proven ability to capture high-quality photos and video content.
Strong teamwork and mobilization skills.
Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Desired:
Knowledge of education-related communication and branding.
Experience working with local media outlets and established networks.
Familiarity with current communication trends and social media platforms.
