Job Description
The Communication Officer will develop and implement a communication strategy in alignment with AVSI’s values and objectives. Responsibilities include content creation, media relations, social media management, graphic design, event organization, internal communications, and multimedia production. The position requires strong writing, design, and storytelling skills to convey the organization’s mission and achievements to stakeholders, donors, and the public.

A. Development and Implementation of Communication Strategy
Develop a resource-sensitive communication strategy
Ensure consistent messaging and branding across platforms
Craft impactful stories highlighting AVSI’s work
Design project-specific visibility plans in collaboration with project teams and regional advisors
B. Content Creation and Media Relations
Write articles, interviews, impact reports, and testimonies
Manage social media platforms (Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Instagram)
Design brochures, newsletters, infographics, and videos
Build and maintain relationships with media outlets
Write and distribute press releases and media kits
C. Multimedia Production and Documentation
Capture and edit field photos and videos
Document and archive communications material and media content
D. Institutional and Partnership Communication
Support teams in effective stakeholder communication
Ensure donor visibility requirements are met
Organize events such as conferences and open days
E. Internal Communication
Improve internal communication flow
Produce monthly or quarterly newsletters
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field
Work Experience:
2 to 5 years’ relevant experience in communication, preferably in the NGO or development sector
Skills:
Excellent storytelling and writing skills in English, French, and ideally Kinyarwanda
Proficiency in digital and social media tools
Photography and videography skills
Graphic design proficiency (Canva, Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro)
Autonomous, creative, and resourceful approach
