Job Overview

As a Commissioning Mechanical Superintendent, you will report to the Deputy Commissioning Manager and assist in the safe and efficient planning and execution of pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up, and performance testing activities for the facility. Your role will focus on ensuring the plant’s production and performance objectives are met while aligning with McDermott’s contractual commitments.

You will be responsible for updating programs, procedures, and activities necessary for the smooth commissioning, repair, and maintenance of all mechanical plant equipment at the Central Processing Facility in Africa.

Experience with OPERCOM on large oil and gas projects is a plus.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate within the project team and with the client to foster positive working relationships

  • Update pre-commissioning and commissioning procedures and testing programs for mechanical equipment and systems

  • Liaise with equipment manufacturers and suppliers for mechanical pre-commissioning, commissioning, and repair procedures

  • Review and confirm lubrication fluid and grease requirements for the project, and develop the Lubrication Schedule

  • Develop work plans for mechanical pre-commissioning and commissioning activities

  • Create Safe Work Practice Procedures for mechanical maintenance activities

  • Contribute mechanical input to the Commissioning Schedule and scope of work for subcontracted packages

  • Provide mechanical input for spares, consumables, and tools

  • Collaborate with the Systems Completion Manager to systematize drawings and validate mechanical data in the completions database

  • Coordinate with the Preservation and Maintenance Coordinator for planned maintenance activities

  • Review mechanical content in pre-commissioning and commissioning dossiers as per project requirements

  • Interface with the Construction Contractor and SMP Sub-contractor for pre-commissioning activities

  • Plan daily activities based on schedule requirements, procedures, and available work fronts

  • Oversee the issuance of PTWs (Permit to Work) and job safety analysis

  • Review interfaces with static equipment and piping to coordinate Gross Air Leak Tests and Commissioning Leak Tests

  • Work with vendors and assist in Vendor Coordination for SATs (Site Acceptance Tests) and initial start-up

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical or Mechanical) or equivalent

  • Minimum of 5 years of pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up experience as a mechanical lead or equivalent on at least 3 major EPC projects in the oil and gas industry

  • Experience with static and rotating machinery, including Gas Turbine Packages, Centrifugal Compressors, Fired Heaters, HP Export/Injection Pumps, and de-gassing and deaeration equipment

  • In-depth understanding of Static Equipment and Piping systems for developing test packs

  • Familiarity with codes and standards including ASME, API, ANSI, EN, and ISO

  • Strong technical knowledge of construction and completion activities

  • Experience with completions databases and completions matrices

  • Ability to effectively communicate technical solutions to engineers and non-engineers

  • Strong English communication skills, both oral and written. A second language is a plus

  • Proficient in MS Office and exposure to Navisworks

  • Strong presentation skills for meetings with engineering teams and clients

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to adapt to varying needs across different disciplines
