Job Description
Job Title: Cloud Security Engineer
Organisation: Management Sciences for Health (MSH)
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
We are seeking a skilled Cloud Security Engineer to join our Information Technology Services (ITS) department. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the security of our digital infrastructure, applications, and data assets. This role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining cloud-based security solutions to protect the organization from cyber threats and vulnerabilities.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Design (30%)
Develop a comprehensive security architecture that integrates with existing cloud infrastructure.
Identify and assess potential security risks and vulnerabilities in the cloud environment.
Create security policies and procedures tailored to cloud-based systems.
Lead efforts to protect the organization’s digital infrastructure, applications, and data assets.
Implementation and Enhancement (40%)
Deploy security tools and technologies such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and encryption mechanisms.
Configure cloud services to adhere to security best practices and compliance requirements.
Implement access controls and identity management solutions to ensure only authorized users can access sensitive data.
Review current security measures, recommend enhancements, identify areas of weakness, and respond promptly to security incidents and audits.
Maintenance (30%)
Continuously monitor the cloud environment for security threats and anomalies.
Regularly update and patch security systems to protect against new vulnerabilities.
Conduct periodic security audits and assessments to ensure compliance with security standards and policies.
Respond promptly to security incidents and breaches, performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education and Experience:
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a relevant field.
6+ years of relevant experience.
Industry-recognized certifications (CISSP, CCSP, ISSAP, GIA, AWS/GCP/Azure).
Proven experience in Azure cloud security architecture.
Experience with security assessment tools and practices.
Experience with enterprise security platforms (Cisco, Meraki, Microsoft, CrowdStrike, etc.).
Expertise in Microsoft Defender for cloud and M365 logging, auditing, reports, Purview, analytics, Graph API, Fabric.
Extensive information security and IT risk management experience.
Practical experience managing network security devices.
Preferred:
Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
4+ years of relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong knowledge of cloud security best practices (IAM, network security, encryption, container security).
Excellent communication, collaboration, and training skills.
Familiarity with compliance frameworks (NIST, CIS, GDPR).
Deep knowledge of application security standards (PKI/certificate-based)
Proficiency in Microsoft operating systems and software.
Problem-solving: Develops innovative and adaptive solutions to complex problems. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Excels in making timely and effective decisions.
Teamwork: Shows a strong commitment to collaboration and teamwork, contributing effectively toward common goals.
Attention to detail: Ensures thoroughness in completing tasks with attention to all aspects, regardless of their size.
Planning and organizing: Effectively prioritizes tasks to manage time and resources efficiently.
Communication: Responds promptly across all communication channels, including email, voice, chat, and text.
Client service: Comprehends and adheres to ITIL principles for service delivery and operations.
Language:
Fluency in French (written and spoken) is a plus.
Travel Requirements:
Up to 10%.
