Job Description
Job Title: Claims Assistant
Organisation: ICEA Lion Uganda
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
ICEA Lion Insurance is hiring a Claims Assistant responsible for assisting with claims management within the set guidelines in order to protect the company from paying unpayable claims
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Recording and processing all claims transactions to ensure they are accurately entered in the system.
Registering claims upon receipt from various entities i.e. Brokers, Agent and direct clients.
Issuing of Discharge vouchers for claims that are fully documented and verified.
Attending to all claims promptly and to arrange surveys if required in consultation with supervisor.
Follow-up of recovery claims and reconciliation of accounts with other insurance companies.
Obtaining quotations when necessary in respect of labour charges and repair/replacement cost in case of property damages.
Creating and maintaining relationship with counterparts with co-insurers and other local insurance companies.
Liaising with assessors and investigators in cases of third party injuries/property damage.
Liaising with underwriters to verify information pertaining to claims.
Closely co-ordinating with Accounts Department for reconciliation and follow-up of insurance company balances.
Preparing preliminary demand letters to negligent third parties.
Processing the various invoices received for payment and to ensure that the invoices are settled within reasonable time.
Sending loss advises to co-insurers and/or other insurance companies in case of recovery of claims.
Assisting the Claims Officer in preparing outstanding claims list periodically to ascertain that adequate reserves are maintained and also the same is in line with the reserve recommended in the reports.
Reviewing list of recovery claims once in a quarter and to initiate action in cases of non-recovery.
Preparing departmental statistic reports and final bordereaux for management review.
Assisting the Claims Officer in the preparation of monthly closing to ensure this is completed on time.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Communication or related discipline from a reputable university.
Professional qualifications) in insurance is an added advantage.
At least 1-3 years experience in claims management.
