About the Organisation
The University that now sits on Banda Hill is one of Uganda’s largest public Universities established by the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act 2001 and the Universities and Other Tertiary institutions (Establishment of Kyambogo University) instruments of 2003. It is a merger of the former Uganda Polytechnic Kyambogo (UPK), the Institute of Teacher Education, Kyambogo (ITEK), and the Uganda National Institute of Special Education (UNISE).

Job Description
Kyambogo University is the second largest Public University in Uganda. Since its formation in 2003, the University has established itself as one of the leading Universities in Uganda offering a number of academic programmes in line with vocational education, teacher training, hands-on engineering, special needs training, social sciences, pure and applied sciences, entrepreneurship and management that meet the market demands and development needs of the Country. The Strategic Focus Areas of the University include: Teaching and Learning: Research, Innovation and Knowledge Generation; Physicalfrastructure, Facilities and ICT Development, Institutional evelopment and Strategic Marketing.
In order to achieve its mission and strategic goals, the University invites applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the Teaching positions in the disciplines listed hereunder on permanent terms.
Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching: Deliver undergraduate and graduate-level courses in chemistry, including lectures, laboratory sessions, and seminars. Develop course materials, syllabi, and assessments that align with departmental standards and promote student learning.
Research: Conduct original research in a specialized area of chemistry, leading to publications in peer-reviewed journals, presentations at conferences, and securing external research funding. Mentor graduate students and postdoctoral researchers in research projects and assist them in their professional development.
Advising: Advise undergraduate and graduate students on academic matters, career pathways, research opportunities, and professional development in the field of chemistry. Serve as a mentor to students, providing guidance and support as they progress through their academic programs.
Service: Serve on departmental, college, and university committees, contributing to academic governance, strategic planning, and program development. Participate in professional organizations and engage in outreach activities to promote chemistry education and research.
Collaboration: Collaborate with colleagues within the department, across disciplines, and with external partners to advance research agendas, develop interdisciplinary programs, and address complex scientific challenges.
Leadership: Provide leadership within the department and contribute to the overall academic mission of the institution. Supervise junior faculty, coordinate departmental initiatives, and represent the department in external forums.
Community Engagement: Engage with the local community, industry partners, and other stakeholders to promote the relevance of chemistry research and education. Participate in public outreach activities, such as science fairs, public lectures, and educational programs for K-12 students.

Qualifications and Competencies
Education: A doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in chemistry or a closely related field is typically required for an associate professor position. Candidates should have a strong academic background and expertise in a specialized area of chemistry.

Research Productivity: A strong record of research accomplishments, including publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals, presentations at conferences, and successful grant proposals. Candidates should have established a research program with the potential for continued growth and impact in their field.
Professional Recognition: Recognition within the scientific community for contributions to the field of chemistry, such as awards, honors, invited lectureships, and leadership roles in professional organizations.
Grant Funding: Evidence of securing external research funding to support research activities, graduate student training, and laboratory infrastructure. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to develop competitive grant proposals and manage research budgets effectively.
Mentorship and Advising: Experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in research projects, thesis/dissertation supervision, and professional development activities. Candidates should show a commitment to fostering the intellectual and professional growth of their students.
Service and Leadership: A willingness to contribute to departmental and institutional service activities, including committee work, curriculum development, and outreach efforts. Candidates should demonstrate leadership qualities and a commitment to advancing the mission and goals of the department and institution.
