Busitema University
The duties of an Associate Professor in Chemical & Process Engineering encompass a range of responsibilities in teaching, research, administration, and community engagement. These duties are designed to promote academic excellence, advance the field, and support the institution’s goals.
Teaching and Learning
Course Design and Delivery:
Develop and teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in chemical and process engineering.
Prepare and update course materials, including syllabi, lecture notes, lab exercises, and reading lists.
Employ a variety of teaching methods and technologies to engage students and enhance learning.
Student Assessment:
Design and evaluate assessments such as exams, lab reports, projects, and presentations.
Provide timely and constructive feedback to students.
Ensure assessments are fair, transparent, and aligned with learning outcomes.
Student Support and Advising:
Offer academic advising and mentorship to students, assisting with course selection, career planning, and addressing academic challenges.
Supervise student research projects, theses, and dissertations, providing guidance on research methods and technical content.
Research and Scholarship
Research Activities:
Conduct high-quality research in chemical and process engineering, contributing to advancements in the field.
Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals, conference proceedings, and other scholarly outlets.
Grant Applications:
Apply for research funding from external agencies and internal sources.
Manage research projects, including budgeting, timelines, and deliverables.
Collaboration and Networking:
Collaborate with colleagues within and outside the institution on interdisciplinary research projects.
Participate in academic conferences, workshops, and seminars to present research and network with peer
Administrative and Leadership Roles
Curriculum Development:
Participate in the development and periodic review of the chemical and process engineering curriculum to ensure it meets current academic and industry standards.
Lead or contribute to curriculum committees and program development initiatives.
Departmental Administration:
Take on leadership roles such as program coordinator, course leader, or head of a specific academic area within the department.
Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to strategic planning and decision-making processes.
Quality Assurance:
Ensure that teaching practices and course content comply with institutional and external quality assurance standards and accreditation requirements.
Engage in continuous improvement of teaching and learning practices.
Community Engagement and Professional Service
Outreach and Partnerships:
Engage with industry partners, professional bodies, and the community to promote chemical and process engineering education and research.
Develop partnerships and collaborative projects that enhance the impact of the institution’s programs.
Professional Development:
Stay updated with the latest developments in chemical and process engineering and educational practices through ongoing professional development.
Share expertise with the broader community through workshops, public lectures, and professional service.
Service to the Profession:
Serve on editorial boards, review panels, and committees of professional associations in the field of chemical and process engineering.
Mentor junior faculty members and contribute to their professional growth and development.
Additional Responsibilities
Institutional Involvement:
Participate in institutional committees, task forces, and strategic initiatives.
Contribute to the institution’s mission, vision, and strategic goals through active engagement and leadership.
Innovative Practices:
Explore and implement innovative teaching practices, such as flipped classrooms, blended learning, and online education, to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment that accommodates diverse student needs and promotes equity.

A PhD in a relevant area from a recognized Institution of higher learning.
Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering (with specialty in Chemical and Process Engineering or Design and Production Engineering) from a recognized Institution of higher learning.
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized Institution of higher learning. Six (6) years of University teaching experience or relevant working experience in a reputable Organization or Industry
Ten (10) recognized publications in the area of specialization, four (4) of which as the First/ Corresponding/ Senior author.
Supervision of three (3) Graduate students (Masters or PhD)
Evidence of contribution to Community
Age limit: Should not have reached sixty five (65) years of age by deadline for submission of application.
