Job Description
The Assistant Accountant is responsible for assisting in the preparation of statutory payments, managing petty cash, reconciling bank and supplier statements, and handling VAT filings. The role includes managing cash flow, preparing payroll, supporting audit activities, maintaining proper financial documentation, and ensuring timely reporting. The Assistant Accountant will also work with TANCIS and EPZA systems and support the budgeting process.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Prepare payments to NSSF, WCF, TRA (PAYE, SDL)
File VAT data in the e-filing system
Handle petty cash transactions
Reconcile local creditor accounts and General Ledger
Process payments and manage cash flow
Prepare monthly cost analysis
Print and file sales invoices from EFD/TRA machine
Perform monthly bank reconciliations
Reconcile stocks
Prepare and reconcile monthly payroll
Use TANCIS system for imports/exports
Submit EPZA reports (monthly and quarterly)
Reconcile Sales & VAT accounts
File and maintain invoices and financial documentation
Manage staff loans and salary advances
Assist in preparation for annual statutory and TRA audits
Support budget preparation and reviews with the Finance Manager and Managing Director
Verify and post financial data in automated systems
Perform other duties as assigned by the Finance Manager and Managing Director

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Strong analytical and finance skills
Experience in invoice processing and accounting systems
Excellent communication skills
Proficient in financial documentation and reporting
Team player with the ability to work on-site
Experience in the horticultural industry is an added advantage
