Job Description
The Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with tax laws and financial regulations. They will manage bookkeeping, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis while also handling accounts payable and receivable functions. Additionally, they will support audits, prepare financial reports, and oversee URA tax returns, NSSF, and URSB documentation. The role also involves handling bids by purchasing newspapers for bid announcements, applying for bids, and following up on bid applications.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, prepare journal entries, and perform account analysis.
Assist in budgeting and forecasting, analyzing financial variances.
Conduct financial analysis, including ratio analysis, trend analysis, and benchmarking.
Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax laws, and financial reporting requirements.
Assist in preparing for audits and reviews, responding to auditor inquiries.
Prepare and submit financial reports to management, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.
Reconcile company accounts, including bank statements and credit card transactions.
Oversee accounts payable and receivable functions to ensure accurate and timely processing.
Perform special financial projects such as financial modeling, process improvements, and internal control evaluations.
Buy newspapers every Tuesday and Thursday for bid announcements, apply for bids, and follow up on the application process.
Handle URA tax return filing, NSSF, URSB returns, and relevant documentation.
Prepare and manage quotations, invoices, and receipts.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Professional certification (CPA, ACCA, or CA) is preferred.
Minimum of 2-3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a similar industry.
Key Skills & Competencies:
Strong knowledge of accounting principles, standards, and financial regulations.
Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, or SAP.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Ability to work accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Personal Qualities:
High level of integrity, ethics, and professionalism.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
