Job Description

Job Title: Accountant (Fresher Jobs)

Organisation: LifeLink Medical Group

Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda


The Accountant is responsible for managing the financial operations of the medical center, including maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial reports, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and supporting the center's financial planning and decision-making.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  1. Financial Record-Keeping

    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including income, expenses, and transactions.

    • Manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely payments and collections.

    • Reconcile bank accounts, cash books, and other financial statements.

  2. Budgeting and Financial Planning

    • Assist in preparing and monitoring budgets to ensure efficient use of resources.

    • Provide financial forecasts and analysis to support management decisions.

    • Identify areas for cost-saving and recommend financial strategies.

  3. Billing and Revenue Management

    • Oversee patient billing and ensure accurate invoicing for services rendered.

    • Monitor insurance claims and reimbursements to ensure timely revenue collection.

    • Resolve discrepancies related to billing or payments.

  4. Financial Reporting and Compliance

    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for management review.

    • Ensure compliance with financial regulations, tax laws, and medical billing standards.

    • Liaise with auditors during internal and external audits.

  5. Payroll and Staff Benefits

    • Process staff payroll, including statutory deductions and remittances.

    • Manage staff benefits, such as health insurance and retirement contributions.

  6. Inventory and Asset Management

    • Monitor inventory levels and ensure accurate accounting of medical supplies and equipment.

    • Maintain records of fixed assets, including depreciation schedules.

  7. Collaboration and Support

    • Work closely with other departments to ensure financial efficiency in operations.

    • Provide financial guidance and support to staff regarding budgets and expenditures.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • Professional certification such as CPA, ACCA, or equivalent is preferred.

  • Proven experience in accounting, preferably in a healthcare or medical center setting.


Skills and Competencies

  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Tally, or SAP).

  • Strong knowledge of financial regulations and tax laws.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • High attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and handle confidential information.


Work Environment

  • Office setting within the medical center.

  • May require occasional interaction with patients regarding billing or payment issues.


Additional Requirements

  • Familiarity with healthcare billing systems and insurance claims processes is an added advantage.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
