Job Description
Job Title: Nurses (5 No Experience Jobs)

Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
The Nurse provides healthcare services and promotes the well-being of students and staff within the school. The nurse is responsible for treating minor injuries, managing illnesses, maintaining health records, and educating the school community on hygiene and health practices. This role ensures a safe and healthy school environment that supports learning and development.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Health Assessment and Care:
Provide first aid and basic medical care for injuries and illnesses that occur during school hours.
Assess students’ health needs and determine appropriate care or referrals.
Emergency Response:
Respond promptly to medical emergencies, stabilizing conditions before further treatment or referral.
Maintain an updated emergency protocol and communicate it to staff.
Health Education and Promotion:
Educate students and staff about personal hygiene, nutrition, disease prevention, and healthy lifestyles.
Organize health awareness programs, including workshops and campaigns.
Medication Administration:
Administer prescribed medication to students as needed, with proper documentation.
Ensure all medication is stored securely and handled according to school policy.
Record Keeping and Documentation:
Maintain accurate health records for students, including medical histories, immunization records, and incident reports.
Monitor and report trends in student health issues to school leadership.
Health Screenings and Monitoring:
Conduct routine health screenings, such as vision, hearing, and general wellness checks.
Monitor and report communicable diseases, ensuring adherence to Ministry of Health guidelines.
Liaison with Parents and Health Professionals:
Communicate with parents regarding students’ health issues or needs.
Coordinate with healthcare providers for referrals or follow-ups when necessary.
Infection Control and Hygiene Standards:
Promote and enforce hygiene practices, such as handwashing and sanitation.
Oversee cleanliness and safety measures in the school environment to minimize health risks.
Health Supplies Management:
Maintain and replenish first aid kits and medical supplies.
Keep an inventory of all health-related equipment and supplies.
Collaboration with School Staff:
Work closely with teachers, counselors, and administrators to address student health concerns.
Provide training to staff on basic first aid and emergency health procedures.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Qualifications:
Educational Background: Diploma in Nursing from a recognized institution.
Certification: Must be registered and licensed by the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council.
Experience: Prior experience in pediatric or school nursing is an advantage.
Skills and Competencies
Strong knowledge of first aid, basic healthcare practices, and pediatric care.
Ability to handle emergencies calmly and effectively.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact with students, staff, and parents.
Organizational skills to maintain accurate records and manage supplies.
Patience, compassion, and a nurturing attitude towards children.
Awareness of child health and safety regulations.
