Job Description
Job Title: Teachers - Lower section (All subjects including reading) (30 Jobs)

Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
A Lower Primary School Teacher is responsible for teaching young learners foundational skills in various subjects, including reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies. The teacher focuses on nurturing curiosity, critical thinking, and literacy skills while fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Plan and Deliver Lessons:
Develop and implement age-appropriate lesson plans for all lower primary subjects, as per the Uganda national curriculum.
Focus on early reading skills, phonics, vocabulary development, and comprehension.
Teach Core Subjects:
Provide instruction in literacy, numeracy, science, social studies, and other foundational subjects.
Use interactive and engaging methods such as storytelling, songs, and visual aids to support learning.
Develop Literacy Skills:
Teach children to read and write by focusing on phonics, blending sounds, and forming sentences.
Foster a love for reading through story sessions and library activities.
Assess Student Progress:
Monitor and evaluate students’ academic performance and developmental milestones.
Conduct regular assessments and provide feedback to students and parents.
Classroom Management:
Create a positive, inclusive, and disciplined classroom environment that encourages participation.
Use various teaching strategies to address different learning styles and abilities.
Support Holistic Development:
Encourage social, emotional, and moral development by teaching good behavior, respect, and teamwork.
Integrate activities that promote creativity, physical development, and self-confidence.
Engage Parents and Guardians:
Communicate regularly with parents about their child’s progress, strengths, and areas needing improvement.
Provide suggestions for home activities that can enhance learning.
Prepare Learning Materials:
Create and use teaching aids such as charts, flashcards, and props.
Utilize digital tools and resources where appropriate to make learning engaging.
Collaborate with Staff:
Work with colleagues to align teaching methods and share best practices.
Participate in staff meetings, professional development workshops, and school activities.
Maintain Records:
Keep accurate records of student attendance, grades, and performance.
Prepare progress reports for review by parents and school leadership.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Qualifications:
Educational Background: Grace III (Credit or Distinction), Certificate or Diploma in Primary Education from a recognized institution.
Certification: Must have a Certificate in ECD with the Ministry of Education and Sports
Experience: Prior experience teaching at the lower primary level is preferred.
Skills and Competencies
Strong knowledge of child development and early literacy techniques.
Proficiency in teaching reading, writing, and numeracy.
Creativity in lesson planning and delivering engaging activities.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for teaching young learners.
Strong organizational and classroom management skills.
Ability to identify and support students with learning difficulties.
