Job Description
Job Title: Underwriting Assistant (2 Fresher Jobs)
Organisation: Britam Asset Managers Company (Uganda)
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
To provide support to the underwriting team by assisting in the evaluation, documentation, and processing of insurance applications, ensuring compliance with Britam’s underwriting policies and standards. The role is essential in maintaining timely and efficient service delivery for clients, brokers, and other business channels
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Application Processing:
Assist in reviewing insurance applications for completeness and accuracy.
Enter client data and policy information into the underwriting system.
Ensure proper documentation is attached to each application, including relevant financial and legal documents.
Risk Assessment Support:
Support the underwriting team in gathering necessary information to assess risks.
Help prepare initial evaluations of potential risks for approval by the Underwriter.
Research client backgrounds, risk exposure, and claim histories to support risk assessments.
Policy Issuance:
Prepare insurance policy documents for issuance, amendments, renewals, or cancellations.
Ensure all documents comply with Britam’s guidelines and regulatory requirements.
Send out policy documentation to clients, brokers, and other relevant stakeholders.
Customer and Broker Interaction:
Respond to inquiries from clients, brokers, and agents regarding underwriting decisions or policy details.
Assist brokers and agents in clarifying coverage options and policy terms.
Follow up on pending or missing information from clients to complete underwriting assessments.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all applications, renewals, endorsements, and cancellations.
Prepare routine reports and summaries on underwriting activities for the team’s review.
Support in maintaining compliance with industry regulations.
Collaboration and Team Support:
Work closely with other departments (Claims, Sales, Customer Service) to ensure a seamless customer experience.
Assist the underwriting team in preparing for internal and external audits.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to optimize the underwriting process.
Training and Development:
Stay updated on Britam’s products and services as well as industry trends.
Participate in training sessions on underwriting tools, regulatory updates, and risk management strategies.
Deliver on performance requirements as defined in the departments’ strategy map, balanced scorecard and Personal Scorecard.
Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Business Administration, or a related field.
Insurance certification or progress toward certification (e.g., CII) is an added advantage.
1-2 years of experience in underwriting, insurance, or a related administrative role.
Strong understanding of insurance principles, particularly in underwriting.
Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and insurance management software
Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Good communication and interpersonal abilities.
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
High level of integrity and ethical conduct.
Team-oriented with the ability to collaborate across departments
