The teaching hospital consists of three operating rooms, an 18-bed Intensive Care Unit, and 68 Ward beds. Hospital staff complete approximately 1,900 surgical procedures annually for children with conditions including hydrocephalus, spina bifida, brain tumors, and other neural tube defects. In addition to world-class clinical service, CURE Uganda ministers to the emotional and spiritual needs of patients and their communities.

Job Description
CURE Children's Hospital of Uganda, a Private-Not-For-Profit (PNFP) Christian Hospital specialized in Pediatric Neurosurgery and Integrated Spiritual Ministry, is seeking two experienced Individuals for the Full-time and Part time positions of a Driver.

Duration: Full time - Fixed Term/ Part time - fixed term
POSITION OVERVIEW:
To provide transport services by driving, maintaining, and managing CCHU assigned vehicles safely and efficiently in line with the logistics and fleet guidelines to ensure smooth operations of the hospital.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Transport services function
Provides transportation using hospital vehicles of goods, staff, and other authorized passengers in accordance with the hospital policies and procedures.
Drive hospital vehicles with strict adherence to local traffic laws and in accordance to hospital rules and regulations pertaining to vehicles.
Ensure punctuality and safe transportation of visitors, co-workers and patients.
Ensure that safe driving practices are adhered to including local driving codes and internally agreed standards.
Carry out hospital errands as required.
Vehicle maintenance and operation
Daily operates and maintains the vehicle (s) assigned in a manner that ensures the safety for the vehicle (s) and its passengers, and that maximizes the vehicles’ life.
Ensures that the vehicle road licenses and insurance are renewed as needed
Maintains vehicle log book for official trips, daily. Keeps accurate and up to date records of trips (mileage) and repairs that are submitted to the supervisor on a regular basis
Ensures that all necessary measures are taken to avoid theft of the vehicles. These measures should include among others locking the doors and windows, avoiding using the vehicles in times and places of high risk, and also ensuring that vehicles are parked in secure places
Inspects the vehicles on a regular basis to detect any faults and/or damage, whether accidental or otherwise and makes suggestions for repair
Ensure that vehicle repairs and maintenance are carried out on time done properly as per official manufacturers specifications and work is done from officially designated workshops.
Ensure that the hospital vehicles are kept tidy and clean at all times. Regular day to day maintenance checks oil, water, battery, brakes and tyres using the vehicle checklist.
Maintain the vehicle in a satisfactory condition, including weekly cleaning of the interior and exterior and periodic (quarterly) cleaning of the motor and chassis.
Ensure that tires are in good working conditions at all time, and that spare tire is in good
Report any apparent malfunction to the
Ensure that the vehicle is safely parked and locked when not in use.
Spiritual Ministry
Participates in the hospital’s Spiritual Ministry programs.
Attend chapel and departmental bible studies with staff (depending on weekly schedule)
Participation in meetings
Attend and participate in department meetings as scheduled
Attend and participate in general co-workers’ meetings as scheduled.
Occupation Health and Safety
Following & complying with H&S policies, processes & applying them to your own work activities, including using/wearing Personal Protective Equipment as required.
Participating in activities directed at preventing harm & promoting well-being in the workplace Identifying, reporting & self-managing hazards where appropriate.
Spiritual Ministry participation
Participates in the hospital’s Spiritual Ministry programs.
Attend chapel and departmental bible studies with staff (depending on weekly schedule).
Education and Professional Development
Identifies and pursues continuing professional development activities in line with their position and maintains professional records that provide evidence of activities completed.
Works with one's supervisor to guide in mentorship and coaching for continual professional growth.
Keep up to date with the position administrative practices and all other relevant matters to ensure maintenance of the knowledge and skill base necessary to good professional practice.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Essential Qualifications
Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) with at least a pass in English language.
A certificate in Logistics and Motor Vehicle Mechanic is an added advantage
Must poses a valid driving permit of these classes C1, C, D1, D
Must have at least 3-5 years’ experience of clean driving record in an NGO or Healthcare setting.
Must be able to think clearly during emergency and urgent situations
Must have a good knowledge of current traffic rules and regulations
Must have good communication and interpersonal skills
Willingness to stay overnight (i.e. on outreaches and when picking up guests at the airport)
Computer literate - conversant with Microsoft Office.
Capable of undertaking duties during odd hours and be able to work under pressure.
Willingness to do any other duties assigned from time to time.
Professional Essential Skills
Ability to read road maps and follow directions
Ability to read, write and speak English and one other language
Basic Knowledge of mechanical and vehicle maintenance.
