Job Description
Job Title: Sign Language Interpreter (15 Fresher Jobs)
Organisation: The Electoral Commission
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
The Sign Language Interpreter will contribute to strengthen Communication between the people with hearing impairment and other Citizens without hearing impairment. The Sign Language Interpreters will be based in the twelve regions of the Commission that include: Kampala, Central North, Kiira, Egon, Eastern, Central South, Albertine, Mid- West, South West, West Nile, Northern, Karamoja and at the Commission Headquarters.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Provide accurate and impartial sign language interpretation between spoken language and Uganda Sign Language(USL) in real-time for beneficiaries to understand.
Collaborate with different parties to understand specific needs and context of the interpreting situation.
Support the selected individual(s) with assigned activities including meetings, Training sessions and presentations.
Review relevant materials and gather information to prepare for interpreting assignments.
Create an environment that facilitates effective interpretation services during assigned activity.
Share experience with the Commission Staff on appropriate strategies for effective utilization of interpretation services in the organization.
Adhere to strict confidentiality protocols and ethical standards as outlined by the Code of Professional Conduct of Sign Language Interpreters and any other relevant legislation.
Performing any other official duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
A diploma holder in Uganda Sign Language interpretation from a recognized institution.
A Diploma in a relevant field plus a certificate in Uganda Sign Language interpretation from a recognized institution will also be considered.
Background to social work, development work or program work is an added advantage.
At least two years working experience providing sign language services in a professional/organizational setting.
Fluency in Uganda Sign Language, English and other local languages
Knowledge on general disability is an added advantage.
